How was there any of the Nostromo left over to find? Did they miss the first movie? The ship was completely vaporized into nothingness by THREE CONSECUTIVE NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS. So how would there be gigantic intact portions still floating around, and all floating in close proximity to one another? And the chunk of organic substance... how did that survive? How was it still viable?

The idea that any of the Nostromo could survive that, or could be found at all, is patently ridiculous. It's just as insulting and stupid as the idea that the OG xeno could be located floating through space..........bruh.

All this shit survived and was easy to find, yet Ripley in an escape pod with a homing beacon evaded discovery for over half a century.

Feed Alvarez wants to continue the prometheus storyline
<mma3>

But did Álvarez feel guilty for making a new “Alien” movie when the trilogy Scott had wanted to make with the “Prometheus” films has seemingly stalled out? “I did. And originally, my first intention, which we might figure out a way to do if we get to make another after this, is to merge them,” Álvarez noted (and, truth be told, there is a surprising amount of “Prometheus” nestled within “Alien: Romulus”). “I think that’s what I want to see. I never liked the idea that something got suspended and some stories were not really finished. And I think he really wants to also find a conclusion to some of the stuff he started with ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Covenant.’ But I’m one that wants to make sure that everything builds up to one big finale.”

Big time this. And also that the alien was floating WITH the Nostromo wreckage. Did they not watch the end of the original film, where Ripley took the escape pod waaaay the fuck away from the explodey Nostromo?

This was so dumb and completely unnecessary.

I’m convinced people just like this movie because they’re being told to.

who is telling people to like this movie lol

Do you take everything literally? People see all the glowing reviews from audiences and critics alike and how it’s undoubtedly the third best Alien film and are scared to buck the trend and say they don’t like it because people will make lazy claims like “you just didn’t get it bro” or “you aren’t a real Alien fan”. In reality this movie has a huge assortment of problems that people are shying away from for some reason. Hmmm. See post #’s 257 & 261. Feel free to try to explain some of them.

Sure, it's lazy writing.

But now the queen can come back from the second movie.

Isolation is the only thing I've seen that lives up to the first two films.
It looks just like the OG but it moves so gracefully. Much more befitting of the perfect organism Ash talked about.

Sometimes I think with certain movies, its like people are trying to not enjoy it. I get that the first two are bonafide classics, but its almost like people can be personally insulted if a movie comes up short of an absurdly high bar.

Not sure how much of a gamer you are, but Aliens: Dark Descent is surprisingly good. Its low budget and has rough edges, but it absolutely nails that feeling of blips closing in and you dont have enough time to prepare for it. Its certainly not a gold standard game like Isolation, but its comparable to Isolation in how it nails the feeling of aliens like Isolation captured the original. Still, its a game and it doesnt transcend to the level of Isolation where I pretty much consider it canon.

Alien Fireteam on highest difficulty with a good team also has fantastic moments and really feels like Alien. Mistake is people and reviewers play it on lower difficulty and then wonder why its not gripping. It has a fantastic class and upgrade system that really works really well togetheer. Sure story is next to nothing its all about the gameplay

I couldn't get into fireteam. But its hard to hook me on multiplayer shooters nowadays.

PRoblem I have with Dark Descent is that the Aliens are unlimited. That just feels cheap to keep the threat up. It is a really good game for what it wants to be I agree but that is a big problem for me why I stopped playing.

Funny enough the characters in the video games now seem more adult and interesting than the boring generic copy & paste in the movies. Alien Isolation is leagues above the trash of the last alien movies.

movie was ASS and extremely disappointing. I'll watch it again because I love the franchise, but I don't expect my opinion to change. I really fucking liked Prometheus but the follow ups have just been a let down.

The opposite can also be true.

Other way around for me. My bar for Alien movies is extremely low. Spooky spaceship movies with creepy atmosphere are an instant win for me. And Romulus achieved that.....but then fucked it up by making a whole bunch of dumb choices that didn't need to be made, and then going off the rails completely.

For me, I don't go into movies wanting to hate them. If it's a movie I am antagonistic to from the get-go, I simply won't see it and won't review it. But if I do see it and it's shit, it's shit. I'm not going to only look at the positive side and pretend that makes the whole thing ok. It doesn't make sense to overlook all the dumb and disappointing shit and only focus on the good stuff like a majority of the internet "ZOMG!!! Amazing!!!".

Yeah, Alien and Aliens are basically untouchable. Or so I thought. Alien Isolation has been the one thing that has legitimately lived up to their high bar and genuinely surprised the shit out of me. I didn't go into it thinking I was gonna love it. I went into it thinking it was going to be a letdown. But the game won me over, big time, on its own merits. Point is, that goes for everything. If the thing in question is genuinely good, then there's no reason not to enjoy it.

The opposite can also be true.
I don't know what that means. Generally speaking, people don't pretend to like things they don't actually like. Unless they're trolling.

An exception is movies that are in some way super political..

People act like they like certain books, movies, etc. to appear hip, cultured, etc.
