Media Alex weighs 235lbs a month out from Ankalaev fight

All I'm going to say is the UFC should control weight cutting and make a 225 to division.
Losing 30 pounds to make weight is crazy especially when they try and put on as much weight as possible in between the weigh ins and the actual fight. By fight time it's a HW fight.

If I really had it my way you'd get on the scale after walking out and then get in the cage. If you miss weight it's an automatic 50% deduction that goes to your opponent.

That would work in a world in a world in which fighters weren't complete morons that would eat a metric ton of lead if they thought it would give them 0.5% higher chance of winning a fight.

However we live in this world, and I could see people dying in the octagon with same day weigh-ins.

looks a bit fat
Yeah he has easily 15-20 pounds that he can lose with some cardio in a healthy way. He just gained fat and mass between fights.

Happens to me all the time when out of camp and I’m shorter than him. Doesn’t take long to get the weight off with training.

Add some dieting closer to the fight and some sauna, and he’ll have taken 30 pounds off in total. It’s not that dramatic.

Losing weight and cutting weight are very different things.

Losing weight happens in nearly every sport that involves preparing for an event. Between camps, athletes need to let the body recover and the weight goes up. In camp, the hard training means you’re losing weight. Happens even with marathoners, who are extremely lean to begin with. It’s the body’s natural process of responding to intense training.

Cutting weight involves losing water weight to meet a certain event weight. Some consider it a form of cheating because you gain it right back after the weigh-ins. It’s prevalent in sports like wrestling where being heavier is advantageous.

Cutting weight is what should be better regulated by the UFC and have measures in place. It’s unfair in some ways, but also unhealthy if done to excess.

Trying to dictate how much a fighter can lose naturally through training camp makes no sense. Especially since it can vary depending on length of camp, type of training, conditions (heat, altitude, etc.).

So Renato Moicano rehydrating back 26 pounds is fine at 155. But Pereira walking around 1 month out from the fight 30 pounds heavier is bullying. It only is a problem if the person is dominant and winning.

And peoples called Izzy a duck for not wanting to fight a guy 40lbs bigger than him lol.

Alex has never been 40 lbs bigger than Izzy in the cage. Its impossible for a MW to rehydrate 40 lbs in 24 hours. The heaviest Alex has ever been in the cage at MW was 218 lbs (the other times he fought at MW, he weighed less than 218). Izzy is around 200 lbs inside the cage, which makes him a small MW. So at most, Izzy gave up 18 lbs, certainly a significant amount but nowhere near 40 lbs

I mean I like the idea in theory.... But the 225+ division would have almost all fatties and a couple of good fighters.... And the best 205's might go up a class and leave that division even more stark than it is now.

Also........ Dana ain't gonna change.

Who cares, always makes weight, never needed those magic Abu Dhabi scales or a mystical towel either.

This idea is terrible every time it comes up. Hw is already a historically weak and crappy division. Last thing we need is to split the hw roster in half. And why? Because some guys are cutting and having no issues making weight? Like in every division?

LOL at all the fuck lips going on about 'he's a weight bully" - it's not like the majority of fighters cut huge amounts of weight.

Hea not cutting from that weight if he's a month out. Sherdoggers are truly special

“I would say maybe 225, 234, something like that,” Pereira told The MMA Hour of his mid-fight weight for his Blachowicz fight. “During the fights at 185, I probably would be in the cage around 210, but at the end of the possible hydration, drinking my fluids and everything, I would probably go to 215 but fighting at 210. My camps were around the same weight. It doesn’t matter for which weight class.”

Izzy has been cutting more from his second Pereira fight, can't imagine there was more than a 5-10 lbs difference in that second fight on fight night.

If they would fight at LHW he would probably give up 20-25 lbs to him, can't blame him for not doing that.

that'll just make for shittier fights because now the guys will be smaller and weaker than they would if they were allowed to cut. cutting weight is a double edged sword, it's not ONLY an advantage
I hear what you're saying, and respect it but I think more good would be done than bad if something like this was implementedy. I truly believe it's only a matter of time before someone dies from cutting weight, then sweeping changes are sure to come.

and its healthy to do that, you can't be lean all the time, you will have many problems
