Media Alex Volkanovski Indicates That He'll Jump Up To Lightweight Until a "Clear Contender" In Featherweight Arrives

You guys into him moving up to LW again if Volk wins the Topuria Fight?

Volk vs Dustin or the loser of Arman vs Oliviera would be fireworks.

Not a good look. One foot out the door

Nope. Second place behind Aldo. 9 title defenses compared to 5 and Aldo has the better resume.
Swanson
Brown
Faber
Gamburyan
Hominick
Florian
Mendes
Edgar
Zombie
Lamas
Mendes
Edgar
Stephens

Knock out losses to mcgregor, max and max
30-27 loss to volk

vs

Elkins
Mendes
Aldo
Max
Max
Ortega
Zombie
Max
Yair

no losses

max has only lost to volk at featherweight in the last 9 years, he’d be on a 16 fight win streak without him. He’s also beaten 6 of the 13 names listed for Aldo’s wins

volk has only lost 3 rounds total in his featherweight career, one of which is incredibly close to Darren Elkins

volk has better striking, better cardio, a better chin, faster, better grappling. Head to head he outlanded aldo 3 to 1

Sorry, but that was AbuDhabiweight. Last time might have been two years ago 160 catchweight against Green.

You asked the question, I answered. Now you're moving goal post and adding stipulations. Like I said before, keep on hating buddy.

I hope Makhachev fights all his bouts in the UAE for the rest of his career, just to read your seething posts every time Islam Makhachevs name is mentioned.

Lol buddy, you keep seething and white knighting, while everyone else is here for shits and giggles 😂

Nah Sherbro. You remember that whole "unified rules" push to change scoring criteria and the grounded fighter definition that happened round about 2017-ish, and almost every other event back then, it seemed like the commentators had to talk about whether the state they were fighting in used the old rules or new "unified rules"? (I always think of the Tim Means - Alex Oliveira fight)

I think a combination of a) a more recent announcement of changing the unified rules wording and b) COVID severely hampering the usual diversity of locations for UFC cards got people either thinking it was solved or forgetting it altogether, but that problem is still very much going on. It's not that  Canada doesn't, since British Columbia did adopt the new rules (Vancouver cards are fine) but Ontario didn't. So fights in Toronto go by the grounded rule of 'If anything other than soles of the feet are touching.' It even specifies one finger and has an additional statement that even fighters only on their feet, but leaning against the cage enough to support their weight can be considered grounded too

Is this shit not playing for anyone? Fuckin broke ass twitter embed

I was wrong. I didn't catch the fight live, but saw the replays and assumed it was a great big nothing burger with the ref allowing 3 legal shots and then stopping the borderline one along the cage, before punishing him for all 4.

Call it a TKO reaching your hand to the mat is not intelligent defence haha.

I feel like the commission issues are a bunch of different people who KNOW that defining a ground fighter with language that can be enforced easily is impossible to have a good answer, so they all just ended up disagreeing on which bad one to use instead

It's crazy that it's still different. Just make it illegal from turtle position and legal from feet and hands on the ground. That way you have two choices, stay in turtle and potentially have the fight stopped, or work up rapidly but maybe take a knee on the way.

It means Aljo v Yan, Walker vs Ankaelaev and this most recent are all legal.

I am not sold on Evoelev as a legit contender. I think he lost to Lopes personally. He needs one more fight against an actual top contender. Allen is good but his best win is still a TKO win over Calvin beore dropping his two actual top 10 ranked fights. Someone needs to force Ortega, YAir etc to fight a contender or leave the rankings.

Since before that when instead of volk, they gave the title shot to Frankie edgar.

They have a champ who wants to stay active, yet they can't seem to make the right contender fights to prevent fresh challengers. It's ridiculous. People were shitting on gaethje, chandler and poirier for a long time, but yair and Rodriguez are even worse when it comes to ranksquatting, and the ufc seems to actively support it.
did you mean yair and ortega because yair and rodriguez are the same people hahah. but yes i agree with the post

Unfortunately, its probably what he needs to do to get a 3rd fight with Islam. Still rather have him defend against Evloev or whoever is next though, but Volk probably wasn't impressed by his robbery win against Allen.
Islam has yet to go through the gauntlet of Poirier, Gaethje, and Chandler. That’s a good year to a year and a half of fights for Islam.

Volk will have to wait patiently for a 3rd fight.

I don’t think Volk is shot yet. The quick turn around isn’t a good idea though. He took the LW fight on short notice too. I think he is taking too many chances.

I am honestly not really sold on Topuria but this is the right time for him to beat Volk.
This is my feeling as well. If Volk ever gets sparked at FW, this'll be the fight.

Dana hated the Allen vs Evloev fight for some reason so I'm pretty sure Evloev will have to fight one more time to secure a title shot, usually the next contender in line has more of a statement victory before fighting for the title.
Evloev did not look like he earned a title shot that fight to the vast majority of viewers.
