Media Alex Volkanovski Indicates That He'll Jump Up To Lightweight Until a "Clear Contender" In Featherweight Arrives

Haha, when was the last time he even fought someone the same size? 😉
When he submitted Charles Oliveira and was
Scheduled to fight him again recently but Oliveira is an idiot when it can to training.

No its because its islam and you guys suck volk off on here to death. Islam had to defend he's belt twice against volk thanks too ufc and olive pulling out otherwise he would had multiple eins at lw already. so if volk gets two gifted title shots them islam deserves it aswell with you crying about it.
That blur of text made no sense congrats. You probably think you said something smart lol

The guy arguably was saved due to referree screw up and has scraped through in his last 2 wins. If it was LW or WW he would need another fight. The only reason he is even in the mix is because Volk and Max beat everyone else, depending on the Ilia fight.
There was no referee screw up. It's "arguably" more the case that if there was any ref screw up, it was allowing Allen more illegal knees

That's not how shit works at all. You don't earn everything an opponent earned over their whole career by beating them.

The clear contender has a name and his name is Movsar Evloev

Footage is there. Arnold wasn't throwing knees to the head of a grounded opponent, his opponent was placing his hand on the ground after being kneed.

They have committed to removing any ambiguity around that position purely due to the fact those knees were technically legal when they were making initial contact IMO.

Yes, the video is there

The knees lifted the hand, then it gets placed down again. The hand didn't come up before the knees

They should remove all ambiguity by removing the rule. But until then, fighters should listen to commission of the area they're fighting in, telling them what the rules are

Sorry, but that was AbuDhabiweight. Last time might have been two years ago 160 catchweight against Green.

This place is so funny, you guys rage when any other champ wants to move up weights or fight for another belt but volk gets a free pass 3 times? After already losing 2 gifted lw title fights? Lol
I don't think he'd get a third shot against Islam right away. He'd likely have to beat whoever doesn't get the next title shot between Oliviera/Arman/Gaethje. If Volk beats one of those guys then he deserves Islam again.

no. stay at fw and set the record for defenses. it was foolish to take that islam fight on short notice, but he can salvage his quest for glory by being the best fw. anything else is a waste.

Its a fair statement. FW is a strong division but Volk has been so damn good that there arent really compelling challengers left even when those challengers are actually great fighters. Of course all this is assuming that the Islam business and being 35 hasnt kickstarted a rapid decline in him, which is certainly possible.

Under the new language, a fighter is considered grounded if they have anything more than just the soles of their feet on the mat. Thus, a fighter who has a fist or palm on the ground will be considered grounded and cannot be attacked with kicks or knees to the head. Should only a fighter’s fingers be touching the mat, they will not be considered grounded.
Does Canada not follow the fingers touching not being grounded rule? Isn't it the same as Weidman vs Moose? The last knee in the sequence is borderline, but the initial 3 are good as far as I was aware under the strictest rules of MMA and being grounded.

Nah Sherbro. You remember that whole "unified rules" push to change scoring criteria and the grounded fighter definition that happened round about 2017-ish, and almost every other event back then, it seemed like the commentators had to talk about whether the state they were fighting in used the old rules or new "unified rules"? (I always think of the Tim Means - Alex Oliveira fight)

I think a combination of a) a more recent announcement of changing the unified rules wording and b) COVID severely hampering the usual diversity of locations for UFC cards got people either thinking it was solved or forgetting it altogether, but that problem is still very much going on. It's not that  Canada doesn't, since British Columbia did adopt the new rules (Vancouver cards are fine) but Ontario didn't. So fights in Toronto go by the grounded rule of 'If anything other than soles of the feet are touching.' It even specifies one finger and has an additional statement that even fighters only on their feet, but leaning against the cage enough to support their weight can be considered grounded too

I actually agree, I get his wish for new challenges and double champ status, but if he continues to be as dominant as he has been in FW then why not have an “easy” late career there, brutalize all new contenders and set some legendary defenses record noone will ever beat in any weight class.

Because that's not how he's built

If he gets past topuria, he should defend against evloev, who I consider an easy fight for volk. After that, if he's set on LW, hell probably have to beat a top 5 guy before getting a title shot. That's a lot to ask for from a guy his age. Of I was him, I'd try to break some of Aldo's records.

Says a lot about the FW division. Its been mismanaged since Volk won the belt.

Since before that when instead of volk, they gave the title shot to Frankie edgar.

They have a champ who wants to stay active, yet they can't seem to make the right contender fights to create fresh challengers. It's ridiculous. People were shitting on gaethje, chandler and poirier for a long time, but yair and ortega are even worse when it comes to ranksquatting, and the ufc seems to actively support it.
