Alex Pereira — GOAT conversation

He's the GOAT for actually making the UFC entertaining the last few years. At least for a few events.

GOATs don't lose to Ankalaev. Even Jan, who was probably top ten LHW when the big boys were around, didn't.

Absolutely not. He’s not the best in any weight class he’s competed in—i.e., he’s not the MW GOAT, he’s not the LHW GOAT—nor does his resume across multiple weight classes warrant it. Hendo for example isn’t in GOAT discussions, but has done more across 3 weight classes than Pereira.

oh shit ur a mod now

IF he wins the rematch vs Ank, he'd have won 6 title fights in the UFC.
So, in the UFC? Not even close.

Now, add 8 title fight wins in Glory. One of the 9 male double champs in the UFC, the only one to do it in Glory.

One of the best combat sports fighters ever? Absolutely.

Love me some Poatan, but he is not in the GOAT convo. Yes he has held gold in the MW & LHW division & that sounds all good, but he has been handed some losses. Guys like GSP, Jon Jones, Anderson, Mighty Mouse, & Khabib have dominated their divisions while never losing their belts. Yes, Anderson ended up losing his belt but he also held that belt for 6 years without a loss. Pereira has dominated but was handed losses have a short reign. Imo a GOAT reigns over a division or divisions for years & years with pure domination. Pereira was close to clearing out his division but couldn't against Ank.

If he can beat Ankalaev, Boner, Tom, Pavlovic, DDP, Ulberg, Jan, Gane, Blaydes, Khamzat and Strickland, it would help.

I don't think it would put him in the top 3 but it would be getting him closer to the conversation. If he beat all those fighters, his list still wouldnt' look better than Bones or GSP on paper.
This would give Alex a resume of: Strickland x2, Adesanya, DDP, Khamzat, Prochazka x2, Hill, Ankalaev, Ulberg, Rountree, Jan x2, Aspinall, Gane, Blaydes, Pavlovic.

This gives him 2 MW title runs (presuming the DDP/Strickland fights u said are MW), 2 LHW title runs and 1 HW title runs, matching Couture for most separate title runs, It would also give him 12 wins against champions (presuming Khamzat beats DDP, if not it would be 11) and 11 title defenses across 3 weight classes.

What's the argument for GSP having a better resume?

GSP's best wins are BJ x2, Hughes x2, Koscheck x2, Shields, Condit, Nick Diaz, Hendricks, Bisping. Yes I know he had other wins but are we really going to say Adesanya or Jan are equal to Dan Hardy or Matt Sera?

Problem is he won’t beat Big Ank. He became too popular and is doing movies and crap. Ank beats him 10/10 times at this point.

If he wins the Heavyweight Belt and defends it... Definitely top 10.

There are other examples to balance out Adesanya and Jan (I scored it a Draw), like the Sherk and Trigg wins.

Titles are awesome but caliber of fighters is more important. Poatan would have to cross weights because there just aren't enough top guys in his division (LHW) to make an all time case.

Even though he would have to move up, HW doesn't have much to offer in terms of all time status, either.

It was a similar case as Kabob. Kabob could never be GOAT because the competition to elevate him to that status just wasn't there.

He really only needed to beat those last few top guys to have securely cleared out the division for a long time.

I do agree that people put too much emphasis and weight on title wins/defenses but it does have some meaning. I personally think that Alex would have a better caliber of wins on his resume then GSP if he somehow managed to win every fight that the person I was replying to suggested but that is like a 1% chance

Ayo BFoe when did you get modded? Congrats my guy.

Poatan is on the same level as Anderson Silva in the goat circle jerk.

Fedor gsp tier 1
Anderson Silva poatan tier 2
Bj penn khabib tier 3
Etc

This. A champ that actually wants to fight as much as possible. Isn't that something.
if the fights are right like striking fight
if he really wanted he had fought at HW vs jones and aspinal
but he knows he would get taken down and humiliated

its a calculated move by him and his team
hell i dont even know if he thinks he can beat ankalaev lol

Well, if Pereira gets the belt back, moves up and get the HW belt... I wanna know how would you guys fit him. He'd have gotten 3 belts in 3 different divisions and have beaten 7 world champions, in 3 different weight classes... All while fighting fighters generally younger and mostly champions.
That would be very impressive.
He already is a great fighter with an impressive resume.

But that would just make him more of an epic legend, kind of like Dan Henderson. He still wouldn't be the goat. He didn't dominate in each division long enough.
