Nah, Ankalaev had bigger chances of doing that. Like, think like this:

Ankalaev = Reyes
Tom Aspinall = Gane

Yeah actually Tom is better than Gane, but you saw how Reyes gave Jones a run for his money yet JJ decimated Gane, right? Because LHW has way more skilled guys. So for big LHW, fighting at a bigger weight sometimes is way easier than fighting while cutting weight vs way better opponents. So, Alex passed the Ankalaev test. JJ passed the Reyes test. Whatever you think about Tom and Alex being a mismatch is based on nothing concrete at all.

Well, JJ would be more than glad to take that fight considering Old Stipe was a harder fight then Tom would have been. The UFC saw through this tho. But yeah, it's going to be broken down on social media soon. But Tom wasn't this guy who you all thought he was. Gane >> Tom actually. I dont see it as a competitive fight tbh. If Alex came up to HW i'd much rather see him fight Gane as its a more interesting fight stylistically imo, or even just a basic but big brawler like Lewis.

i too am fed up with that narrative. The fact that alex can make 185 says all you need to know about the size difference. Tom couldn't make 185 let alone 205 if he lost 3 limbs.
