Amy Klobuchar mentioned during the debate that all 18 years olds should be automatically registered to vote on their birthday.

Then I thought, they already send selective service registration letters to all 18 year old males on their birthday.

So, why isn't this a thing?
It really should be, I don't know why it isn't?

Dont you guys have to vote within your electoral district of where youre living and be registered within it? Since elections only happen once every 4 years, automatic registering of some who is 18, but may be 22 by the time they vote, and possibly in another district would just result in more paper work cost.

Unless I'm missing something about US federal elections

That's a good point. Yeah it could cost more and might be kind of a hassle. Maybe it should be required for tenancy agreements to include a free-to-mail, detachable "change of voter address form" or something like that.

Well make voter registration easier with change of address registration via online, via phone or even on site at a election polling location (although after working several Canadian election, it proves problematic - you can register in your voting district on voting day here in canada. Problem is, it's often 80 year old retirees who are working the registration desk, and forget to include previous address on the form. So when the forms reach Ottawa to update voter registration location, they can't strike them off the previous list of their old district. So our turn out numbers are reported lower due to employee error)

Catching up on the debate. I really hate when people start out with the cent per dollar explaination and then continue using it like it doesn’t amount to a lot of money. Two cents is actually two percentage and it’s a shitton of money. It’s a debate and you are trying to pitch your case but it’s dumbing things down to the point where it becomes misleading imo.

Agree, it's borderline dishonest. It's a gigantic tax and she's trying to soft-sell that. More of that less-than-forthcoming stuff from Warren that I really dislike, as if she's afraid to be honest. And it's probably correct for her to be deceptive like that, in terms of getting and keeping votes in the primary. I think she would be punished for being as straight-up as Bernie. People don't like that from a woman, even Democrats in 2019.

Yea it was the piece Warren did with it I saw thus far. I don’t think she can soft sell the platform she has at this point. She’s chosen the same lane as Bernie and a Bernie lite platform isn’t going to seem authentic. I really think she’s the biggest let down in the race. When she announced, I thought she’d have an entirely different campaign. If you look at the top four, it kinda makes sense how she fit into the spectrum to maintain support.

People talk alot about trump shifting the rust belt voters, but few talk about how Hillary flipped alot of top 20% voters, which was a bigger voting bloc. Do you think the +50k demographic will turn out for Bernie like they did Hillary?

What’s the top 20% voters? People making 50k or more? That’s sounds lower than it should be.

Ok, if we narrow it down to 100-199k (which is closer to top 5 of income earners but a much higher bloc of voters at 24% according to exit polls)

I’m sorry if I’m not following this. The top 5% earners make up 24% of the voter block?

Higher incomes and older populations vote.

Yea I was aware of the older. I think a lot of posters here forget about that when they wonder why certain issues don’t move forward faster like weed.

Vivas Biden vs Bernie age of voter threads just had me looking into the variables of voting behavior. It's never really a 1 to 1 thing

Tim Robinson should be used for a SNL cold open as Tom Steyer

Also, that donor part of the debate got really hostile.

Warren got smacked hard there. Attacking the only non millionaire or billionaire on stage for taking money from millionaires was a lack of self awareness

Yea, it kinda exposes or turns the establishment title on its head since he is essentially trying to cut the line like Obama did while she has been playing the more traditional game of getting a high position seat and working closer and closer to the top seat. You could definitely argue she is more establishment in the sense of controlling the party’s platform than Pete in the past 6 years.

Also, I just googled Warren and the first thing that comes up is “Elizabeth Warren net worth”.... rough

“Let me tell you about my relationship to the first amendment” by Pete and Klobuchar shaking her head made bust out laughing. Any “let me tell you..” openings must be so annoying to whoever is on the receiving end of it on that stage, like a “oh here we gooo” moment
