Yes, but most of the soldiers went to war to keep the Union together, then in 1863, the script was changed, so they had to adapt. Many didn't like the idea of fighting for slaves. Many decided that slavery was wrong and they could use the manpower. But From my research, they were pretty indifferent either way. They were ok with it, but would not have gone to war over it.But wasn't that only to outlaw slavery in the confederate states and not the north?
Again, I can't speak for them all, just the ones I've come across.
