Nikki Haley was rather confused and offered a strange word salad when she was asked about what was the cause of the civil war. Weird that Haley forgot slavery cause slavery is mentioned multiple times in South Carolinas declaration of secession. Its as if saying slavery would upset the people she needs to vote for her.

This conversation has been had enough times here I know how it's going to go:

Chuds: It was about states' rights, not slavery.
Humans: States' rights to do what?
Chuds: Did you know black people owned slaves too? Most people who fought for the south didn't even own slaves themselves. What about the black people in Africa who sold the slaves to begin with? The north didn't actually care about black people either.

What about chicago?

Also, let's just get this out of the way right now:

South Carolina Declaration of Secession, 1860

A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery. He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common Government, because he has declared that that “Government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free,” and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course of ultimate extinction.

We, therefore, the People of South Carolina, by our delegates in Convention assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, have solemnly declared that the Union heretofore existing between this State and the other States of North America, is dissolved

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.

etc

Oh, and...it's not destroying history and 1984 when they take your participation trophy statues down. Germany doesn't need statues of Hitler to remember their history, do they? There are these things called books. Also, Robert E Lee was a cruel dirtbag, even by the standards of his time.

That's all, carry on.

When the questioner said it was “astonishing” to hear her respond “without mentioning the word slavery,” Haley replied: “What do you want me to say about slavery?” She then asked for the next question.

WTF am I reading here? This is getting close to satire. Especially this part:
"These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun."

In other words:
The sun is too harsh on white skin so we need black people to forcefully do the work for us while we treat them like animals.

Yeah...even if it was true that only black people could work in the sun (lol), that doesn't justify not paying them for their work. If anything, since they have such an important skillset, they should receive a nice salary for it.

She knows what's up, she just earned a lot of votes right there

I'm exhausted with this nonsense tactic where some journalist asks a question about something so general and studied and irrelevant to the campaign at hand that there is nothing material about a politician's administrative intent to ask it at all, but because the candidate doesn't offer a very specific answer within the sea of possible responses, suddenly they seize upon that to demonize the person asked the question.

That isn't an interview or a question. It's a transparent, hostile, meaningless attack.

The article says it was a questioner at a town hall event. Where do you see that it was a journalist?

Either way, they probably asked this question, because when Haley was governor of South Carolina in 2015, South Carlolina still had the Confederate flag on government grounds. They only removed it after the shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Correct answer it was a town hall event. If you don't want to face gotcha questions just pull a Trump an not show up.

She agreed to it so she got exposed to Republicans biggest fear turning off racist Republicans lol. She smart enough to know the event in question just ran into a wall.

Got to get the popcorn 🍿.
