Come to think of it, this might be the only case of a bird killing an adult human in recent history.

This post goes to proper respect and handling of animals.

A cassowary, a rare emu-like bird, attacks and kills Florida man, officials say

A cassowary, a giant bird with long claws on each foot, killed its owner after he fell in the backyard of his Gainesville, Florida, home, officials told CNN.

...
"The cassowary is rightfully considered the most dangerous bird in the world!" the zoo says. "Each 3-toed foot has a dagger-like claw on the inner toe that is up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) long! The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick."

Oh and the obligatory...

Florida

What’s actually shocking about this is it wasn’t just some shitty owner. He was a property lic’d experienced owner and it seems like an unfortunate incident, but free contact of a cassowary does have certain risks.

ya, sounds like he may have stumbled and fallen and startled the bird in doing so resulting in the attack. Very unfortunate.

How was that talon preserved so well? Looks fresh enough that you could throw it in a stew.

and here's a heartwarming story about a girl who got a pet tortoise at 10 and they're still together 56 years later.

It was found in a cave where the conditions were just right. They recently found blood in a mummified 40,000+ year old horse. They’ve even found soft tissue in t-Rex fossils.

Speaking of turtles, China accidentally killed one of the four remaining Yangtze giant soft shell turtles by trying to artificially inseminate her. She was the only female left.

No need legends, if It got the claws to kill an over200kg moa, humans are on menu too
Just think how things would be different if they could have domesticated them.
Imagine a guy swooping down at you on the back of a Haast eagle while yelling a Hakka.

I don't It could fly with even a little kid on the back lol, they were still relatively too "small"

But mongols can train theyr eagles to attack and kill mongolian wolves, wich are smaller than big ass gray wolves but still fucking wolves
And these eagles are a joke next to what Haast one was

They become cookies?

That looks like theyr Pokémon evolution
