I ain't an expert but I have probably about 6yrs of HEMA study. Yes, spear beats most everything, the only downside is that there is the possibility that zombies are slightly more resistant to puncture wounds than slashing weapon wounds. I think there's more chance of a spear to the head glancing off the skull than the longsword or axe to head/neck area. But I don't think it's much different. The other thing is that one can take a leg off with a slashing weapon and slow the zombie but spearing the leg may do nothing but trap your spear.
I agree that a spear is easily manufactured though so I'd not pick it for that reason alone.
My second go with my new crossbow I hit a grouping of 6 inches with 6 bolts at 75yrds. I don't think a Glock will do anything like that. So I'll have your Glock thanks
There's not a huge difference in sound between them maybe 80 decibels for the bow, 84 for the crossbow. The benefit of the crossbow is that you'll hit a target at three times the distance with 1/100 of the training time. Also the crossbow is able to be much more powerful, and one doesn't have to be a physical specimen trained in its use to load it. I have a 180lb draw compound crossbow shooting over 400fps but only a 60lb compound bow. I could use a bigger bow but I don't shoot often enough to make it worth it as I'd have to be shooting regularly to be strong enough to use it.
Another benefit of the Xbow is that you can cock it before an ambush whereas with the bow you have to draw just before release, especially if heavy, and the drawing makes a noise tho quiet. And of course compound bows make it much easier to hold at full draw.
But yeah they ain't quiet, just a lot more quiet than a gun, which is over double as loud, 160db approx.
