Zabit Magomedsharipov went to Kung-Fu boarding school (Video)

His other two fights in UFC are on youtube. To quote Joe Rogan "He MAULS people!". Check those out. Won by tight ass submissions after a heck of an ass whopping in the striking department first.

Ill be checking them out for sure

Hate joes use of the word maul though. That is something a rhino or a crocodile or maybe a pitbull does. The reality of what fighters do is impressive enough, theres no need to make up silly fantasies about it all *rolls eyes*

great find.

excellent post.

Lol @ them rocking the Mortal Kombat music during training. I gotta admit that is a pretty epic background for it too. Looks like a MK level!

Shao Khan is the school principal. :D

Every martial art can be effective with the right practitioner. If Tai Chi had full contact sparring and a progression system they'd be competitive too.

Yes everything can be effective. I would compare this to Machida's karate.

That's kind of like going to a Sambo boarding school in Beijing. I'd be more impressed if his parents sent him to a real Shaolin temple to learn that stuff...

I'm a big fan of traditional martial arts in MMA, but you have to cross-train and know when and where to use it. As for "everything" being effective, I'm not sure about that. We've seen Shotokan, TKD and San Shou (Cung Le) work. I'd love to see a successful implementation of Wing Chun/Wing Tsun, but we haven't seen much of it yet. I'm skeptical about T'ai Chi and Aikido having much use, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Agree. Without at least some basic wrestling and grappling you are doomed in modern MMA.

If you look at the video from the school the one with the Mortal Combat music, the kids are doing some sort of kata with take downs. Are single and double leg takedowns included in traditional Wushu or is it something they have adopted recently to be viable for MMA?

This is the same school that Muslim Salikhov went to, right? Salikhov fights this weekend and is a world champion in wushu/sanda.

"Kung Fu Boarding School" sounds like some kind of terrible Kevin James/Jack Black movie.
