Zabit Magomedsharipov went to Kung-Fu boarding school (Video)

I wouldn't have guessed they had Kung Fu boarding schools in Dagestan.

This is the same school that Muslim Salikhov went to, right? Salikhov fights this weekend and is a world champion in wushu/sanda.

Not sure. I was trying to find a list of their graduates. They write that they have produced many world champions. Since you understand Russian, check out this article:

"В 2015 году «Пять сторон света» вошли в список 100 лучших школ России."

Translation: "In 2015 the 5 Storon Sveta school was included in the list over 100 best schools in Russia"

Неожиданно, мягко говоря. :D

That's pretty unexpected for Dagestan, since it's considered beeing one of the poorer regions in Russia.

All that training is almost for nothing when their food supply is one cup of rice a day. Zabit managed to push through tho but now looks like skeletor.

Ok, Dagestan is not rich, but it's not North Korea.

Yes, this school seems to be doing things correctly. They have many successful fighters from the school.

It is pretty cool to see though, maybe his school is like Krasnoyarsk Wrestling School, or Sazhid Sazhidov's school of wrestling. In terms of successful athletes from there.

Cool. Will put this in the OP.

Anyone else notice that during the actual fighting everyone stops using kung fu?
True but flashy kicks (Cung Lee also had those) timing, distance, ability to throw leathal combinations in the striking department... something most MMA fighter lack.

This reminds me of Jackie Chan getting dropped off at the Peking opera school for 10 years. Taught him a lot about martial arts and discipline.

Loved his style of on screen martial arts. Such creativity

Again, this is a reminder that 'talent' is a myth. Zabit is good because he put in the hours. Back in the day, they used to train the Spartans like Zabit but even harder, they had to live away and all they did was train and everyone of them was a hardened killer. The Dagestan takeover will continue as we see that Zabit and Khabib are just normal guys from that area and place and time; training your boy to be a killer was just the fashion for the peope that grew up surrounded by war.
If theres no such thing as natural talent then why are there weight classes?

That's where the difference is between Americans and Europeans.

For you a "talented" athlete is someone big and muscular. For instance I notice how Joe Rogan talks about Brock Lesnar och Nganou. I think it comes from the fact that your sports are mostly about physical attributes such as weight and height.

While we like sports like soccer where there's much more emphasis on the tactical and technical aspects, therefor a player like Messi who is not very big, but is very quick, technical and smart is considered the best.

In my eyes Might Mouse is a lot more talented fighter the Nganou.

For instance there's a reason why in soccer the best dribblers (with some exceptions) are small guys, that's also the case in basketball. A 2 meter tall guy is usually slow and sluggish.

Was Jackie Chan sent to a similar school as a kid?
