Seriously.

Who in the hell has ever heard a kid say "I want to join the UFC but there is no money so instead Im gonna play football!"

or

"Im so amazing @ MMA/wrestling/bjj/sambo etc but there is no money so I gotta pick another sport"

Do you actually believe kids, choose the sport they want to play based on $? Like seriously?

No, they choose a sport because they like it...Why do they like it? Exposure usually, this is why everybody wants to play football when they are young in the USA...or simply they tried a sport and liked it.

Once a kid knows he is a good @ sport, guess what, they will pursue it as a career.

You people make it sound as if there is lines of Michael Jordons/Mike Tysons/Cristiano Ronaldos...All wanting to join MMA but seeing the bad payday's makes them instead focus on another sport.

Here is the bottom line.

Fighting caters to certain people and money has nothing to do with it......Circumstance and that inner love for fighting is why people become fighters.

If a young man/woman sees MMA and has that love for fighting gene.....and based on circumstances has a good gym nearby, and parents pay for the training...Guess what? He/She will be a fighter.

OR if they done good at a sub sport likes bjj,Sambo, etc and have the fighting gene of punching ppl..they will join it.

How much money they will get in the future had nothing to do with the motivation initially.

Now Im not saying fighters shouldn't get paid more...They should, alot more...but money doesnt get talent into MMA...Money might be an issue for mid tier talent fighting in small shows tho.

You want more young talent? well MMA needs more exposure/heroes like the guys above. Not to mention more good MMA gym's. If BJJ/Boxing was part of school, I guarantee you that there would be much more talent.

So please stop saying this no money non sense as if influences a kid decision...A kid picks a sport based on circumstance/passion behind it.....

Some athletic kids simply don't have the passion for fighting, so they might even suck at it...I seen athletic kids just being awful @ sports they didn't like.

Other athletic Kids based on circumstance just never had the opportunity to love MMA/Fighting.

Might not influence an athletic kid........but might be in the mind of a pushy parent!!!

Not saying it's a prevalent point in every case, but money plays a part for some!

Seriously.

Where to list the faults of this dumb post?

To start with most MMA talent doesn't start in the sport as a kid, neither Fedor nore Jones did they chose to switch to MMA from judo/sambo and wrestling respectively.

Beyond that though even if you start off with MMA as a kid there will come a point where you make a potential career choice based on money and potentially drop it.

Basically what your saying is OP that Zuffa taking massive profits out of the sport is a good thing?

You're kidding yourself if you don't think 220+ pound athletes choose to go into football more than MMA because of money, m8

It's one reason why HW seems to drag behind in terms of technique/overall talent as opposed to the smaller weight classes.

$ had nothing to do with it.

If you are good wrestling/BJJ/Sambo/etc and have a true passion for fighting.....You will try MMA, $ will be an issue once you are half way thru ur career and it depends on how good or bad u did.

Fighting isn't like college sports, there is no scholarship, so yes it's risky..but true passion/skill pushes and individual to take that risk once they know they like fighting.

Bro read the OP.

I said Fighters deserve way more money, way more but it doesn't influence kids.

Trophy kids?maybe but I doubt most athletes are trophy kids....Also we do have sage who is a trophy kid lol.

I'll be honest, bud. I didn't read the whole thing, haha. But...I think I agree. Look at Sage, Paige & Rory.

As I said "bro" it might not influence kids but there comes a time when people do make serious career choices and money does obviously play a part. A lot of the reason the UFC gets so many ex wrestlers is that there sport offers little in the way of potential pay, its been crap at attracting kickboxers for example because Zuffa won't pay well early the way other orgs like Pride did in the past.

Rory is a perfect example, dude joined because he loved it...money became a factor after

Sucks that he isn't getting paid tho

Not even close. The dumbest statement ever is clearly "she's a once ever in human history talent"..

As a kid I always wanted to become filthy rich, I trained Judo but didn't want to continue with it simply because of the money issues.
So some kids do pursue money (or maybe it's my Jew genes).

If you aren't top 50 in the sport you are either poor or living off your parents.

Conor was happy to be on welfare for many years before he even covered his training costs.

INTERVIEWER: Back then if MMA was out would you have done that instead of boxing?
TYSON: If they had big paydays, yes. No doubt about it.

We are talking about young people.

And why they chose the sport, they chose.

Young people chose based on what they like.

What you are talking about is after there 20s and they think about money.

And I agree the UFC should pay way more.

As for kickboxers, the reason I feel they don't join is because they don't do that good and kickboxing pays good money.

Pride/K1 were the same company so that it was easy to cross over.

Tyson was 100% circumstance.

The guy was taken to great trainers etc.

If he had been taken to the Gracie's, he would've done nhb fighting.

What Tyson meant was if during his boxing career when he was already a millionaire, if somebody offered him an MMA fight, he would join if the money was good.

Which makes sense since Tyson was a business man at that time as well

McGregor and Aldo would not be here if they had any success in their soccer careers, that's for sure. Most kids in Europe and Brazil dream of being a soccer player, even tough they might have fighting spirit, or fighting gene as you call it they'll try soccer first. Same in America with football and basketball i guess. Only if they fail in those sports, they might turn to martial arts later. Many of the greatest talents and athletes are in those top mainstream sports, even tough they could have been great in MMA.

It's because they try football, rugby and other sports that are way more popular.

People go towards the spotlight, money has nothing to do with it, initially.

Never heard 220lbs kids say "MMA doesn't pay so I'm playing football."

When would the situation ever arise where they say it? lol

Of course they try soccer, football etc first...they are popular.

People like what they are good at......so of course if u R good at something u will do it.

Saying somebody is good at soccer, football, etc so he will be good at another sport, is really dumb.

Met lots of great athletes who are only good at one sport..it's rare to have athletes be at top level of multiple sports.
