  • A father and two children have been swept away by flash floods in the US state of New Mexico, the National Weather Service says
  • A swift water rescue team is searching for the family, and multiple other rescues are under way
  • Video shows a house violently washed away in brown floodwaters, splintering as it hits trees, and the NWS says multiple homes have been "moved by water"
  • The emergency comes just days after deadly floods hit the neighbouring state of Texas
  • In Texas, more than 109 people are confirmed dead and at least 161 are still missing following flash floods last Friday
----

Meanwhile, in France:

Some 110 people have been injured in a fast-moving wildfire that has reached the outer edge of Marseille, France's second largest city.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said about 800 firefighters were at the scene and efforts to tackle the blaze would continue "all night", as the fire was not yet contained.
The city's mayor, Benoît Payan, said earlier that the "marine firefighter battalion is waging guerrilla warfare, hoses in hand," referring to Marseille's fire and rescue service.
At least 400 people have been evacuated from their homes, according to French media. Nine firefighters are said to have been injured.

Seems like the future is now

Perhaps the climate has already changed.

Who do they blame now when Biden isn’t in office?

Perhaps the climate has already changed.
They already said the global water temperature has passed the 2.5 degrees above baseline. No Idea what that means but they said it does not so much mean higher temps. What it means anything lot more water supercharger the clouds. More powerful storms, change vegetation an food supply issues.

Jesus Christ man some of us are stoned here.

Yeah, it might still mean different things in different places.

Spain is now 20 % desertified, wildfires in Europe are getting worse, but it might be different somewhere else.

Temperature increase isn't just going to manifest as dryer conditions, balances will be upset, and yes, storms will probably get more frequent and worse.

If it continues (and it's still an if) it's time to remove a lot of people from a lot of powerful positions as they've proven they cannot be trusted to rule.

Those that made money damaging the climate should lose every penny/cent.

That's terrible, man. A whole family could just be swept away like that. I hope they are found alive, but I know it's unlikely. Hope the rest of the town can get to safety.

It's terrifying.

Our homes, these structures we invest and trust in, against the might of nature... yeah.

Weather events, whatever kind, can be just so damn powerful and destructive.

The power of these floods is staggering. I had no idea they could be this impactful. So sad.

Has Greta made it to a protest in China yet?

Pray for my Apache peoples please,

These fires and floods have been ravaging my family and our lands for years now. The recent fires have made the community rife for floods.

But thanks for Mathew McCONaughey for driving a bus around town to bring attention to our plight.

At least they're not called the Redskins anymore.

Flash floods like this in New Mexico are not all that unusual. There’s no plant life to absorb the water so even short lived storms can cause a flash flood. I’ve seen a few of them before myself

Who do they blame now when Biden isn’t in office?
I would blame God, then China, then India, then USA

God because mother nature really is the true culprit, the rest would be ranked according to their contributions to climate change. Linking that to this event as if floods weren't around before is a stretch.

Climate change is a myth, in that the climate has never stayed the same and is always changing, it should be toxic pollutants and heavy metals we should be concerned about not carbon.

Now do top ten countries with renewable energy.
China is also #1, and would still be #1 without three George dam. And as a percentage of power generated is above USA as well.
Consider that we are now finding out that oil is not a fossil fuel but is created by pressures in the Earth's mantle and if this is truly the case it would make it the most renewable energy there is.

I'm not disputing they are a heavy polluter but you started with just their coal power production and you countered the #1 renewable energy with a different stat. And yes it will probably take decades of the current trend continuing but they are expanding green energy and their carbon emissions have declined in the last 12 months.
