buying batteries is a thing of the past. this isnt 1995. "best thing about the Xbox is the replaceable batteries. The ability to swap them out in a few seconds and have a full charge is awesome. You just have to buy rechargeable ones." i dont have to swap shit out with a ps5. those few seconds replacing batteries every other day over 5 years adds up. the best thing about the xbox is the replacable batteries ROFL. PS5 has no batteries. they adapted with modern times 14 years ago. the charging station for my sons xbox 1 broke 3 times. batteries went limp. had to replace. spent upwards of 80 dollars keeping up with rechargable batteries. xbox is a money sink. spend 500 dollars on a console then have to go spend an extra 100-200 for accesories is ridiculous.

Yeah, of all the things to praise Xbox for, the whole "You still need AA batteries for your controller, or you can buy a charge station separately", is not one of them. It's pretty fucking embarrassing, actually. They should just be re-chargeable out of the box, like, well, damn near every modern device. Imagine buying an iPhone, and it didn't come with a charge cord, and instead you had replace lithium batteries every week. Ridiculous that MS hasn't evolved in that area yet.

I have an Xbox and a Nintendo Switch. My main Switch controller charges via USB C and doesn't have a removable battery pack and My Xbox takes removable batteries and I like that way better, because when my switch controller dies I'm forced to be tethered to the charger if I want to continue playing.

Neither is really a deal breaker, but Xbox Controller+AA rechargeable batteries >Playstaion Controller with non removable battery pack. The batteries in those rechargable controllers also lose their charge over time as well.
i still have ps3 controllers that hold charges. as do my ps4 controllers. i have never bought a new controller due to refusing to charge. ps controller >>>battery xbox controller. now if xbox put a rechargable controller with their console it would be different. but you gotta shell out 65 dollars for one of those as an external purchase from the console. you can spend more in external purchases for xbox accessories than you would buying a ps5. i also have a switch and plug it in when not using, never have the issue you describe by just charging it when not in use. plus you have to buy a switch controller if you want a good one. the in box ones that hook up to the slide pieces are complete shit.

I never understood the battery thing either. Until I saw this:https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pc...aa-batteries-because-of-a-deal-with-duracell/

MS claims that’s not why and it’s about choice but I don’t believe it.

The only good argument that I’ve seen for replaceable batteries is preservation. Lithium ion will eventually go out but the time it will take is almost irrelevant.

I’d also have to assume that wear and tear would be a factor if you were able to keep a controller for decades. Ultimately I’d prefer recharging out of the box.

Thats cool that your PS3 controllers hold a charge still. The thing is though I have like a shit ton of rechargable AA batteries that I keep on hand for other stuff too like television remotes and some of my music gear. (Wireless microphones, acoustic guitar pick up, etc...)

It's all preference I guess, but I like the option of being able to remove the batteries and never being tethered. That's just my opinion. You are right about the slide piece switch controller though, that thing sucks balls. I actually bought a dongle that lets you hook up an Xbox, PC, or PlayStation controller to it. It was only $20 on Amazon. I also bought an off brand pro controller (which is my main controller that I use for it) from Amazon as well. It was also $20 and it works and feels great.

I like the AA battery thing too because those are the only batteries I seem to always have on hand for other stuff anyhow. I still have a wireless PS2 controller (actually licensed by Sony) I use for emulation and typically get a good 20 hours out of the 2 batteries

"PS5 has no batteries"

Lol yes it does. Good luck replacing them when they wear out.

The battery life on the PS5 controller is dog shit. It’s one of my biggest complaints about the system. Sony’s controllers have been getting worse generation after generation when it comes to battery life.

PS3 > PS4 > PS5

As antiquated as AA batteries are for my Series X controller at least they seem to last a hell of a lot longer. I played through the entire Orange Box without having to replace them.

I’m buying a new Xbox when I can get one at retail, I might get a used PlayStation in a couple years if it has some games I’m interested in.

Getting a charger for the dual sense controllers has been a game changer for us.
Always a fully charged controller for me and my son to play with.
My wife doesn't have to complain about us leaving the controllers on the couch or table.

Don’t you have a docking charging station? It takes seconds to swap controllers on PS5. I literally drop the controller onto the dock pick up the other controller while hitting the PS button. A sec or two later it ask me to activate it and I am ready to continue playing. I don’t care how long your AA batteries are lasting you ain’t gonna spend less time swapping them out compared to how quick I can change controllers. My dock is right next to where I sit when I play so I don’t even have to get up when I do the swap…

Can’t swap controllers if you only have one controller.

well there’s your problem. Buy another homey. I have never owned a console without a spare controller. Always bought an extra one with the console.

Can’t afford a second controller when you buy a second console (I bought both a PS5 and a Series X)

You’re a lawyer. If you can afford a 2nd console you certainly can afford another controller.

All your PS5 controllers issues will go away as soon as you buy another controller + docking station.

PS5 is what I'll buy one day .not even going to consider a Xbox . Xbox use to be my jam but the consoles started junking out and I didn't like Xbox One . There was a few people I always played with and we all switched to PS . My ps4 is still got strong and I like it's games so it will be a while before I switch.

I am still on the neither train on this. Are there any good exclusives at this point that don’t have a PC port?

Had to change my vote to both since I now do.

Is that really a threat, though? I have yet to hear of any cases of Playstation controller batteries dying within a console's life cycle. Shit, my PS3 controller still has the same life it always had.
