PWD WWE SNME Dec 2025: Never seen 17 one last time.

That's Heat
That's retardation.

Back in the day this may be considered excusable for teenagers because the veil of the business wasn't lifted.

Now the veil has been lifted and even small kids knows it's theater.

So adults following a talent and harassing him? That's retardation.

Finish was perfect imo. Sure he gave up but only after trying to fight a sleeper which has put most of the roster away for five fucking minutes. Then he realises he isn't getting out this time and makes the face because his time has passed and he knows he doesn't have it anymore.

Amazed by the negative reactions to it in an era where I thought people were supposed to be smart to the business.

Anyway Gunther is a genius for getting a match that good out of Cena at this stage of his career (or maybe any stage).

Yeah, I really don't get what people are complaining about. I'm not a WWE fan and haven't watched the product in years, and even I can see it was the right call. I can see some argument for him passing out instead of tapping, but it works either way imo.

I'm really surprised at the reaction and thought it was pretty obvious how it was gonna go down. Did people not see this coming?

People were going to be mad no matter what happened. It's just the way it is.

wrestling fans gonna be wrestling fans.

I was talking to my brother about it yesterday when were at the AEW show in Cardiff. We weren't even in the building yet, and could hear fans complaining in line about the most mundane inconsequential bullshit lmao

From the outside looking in it seems like people just wanted more of a happy ending, don't think people are mad at the loss as much as they're mad at an evil heel getting "heat" by finally making John Cena quit.

Ric Flair lost, but it was against Shawn Michaels and it was all kumbaya and happy afterwards with them hugging in the ring and crying.

More recently Keiji Muto lost his retirement match against likeable Tetsuya Naito at the Tokyo Dome and it was all kumbaya and happy afterwards.

A few years ago Jushin Liger the long time ace of the Jr. Heavyweights lost and passed the torch to likeable next generation Jr. Heavyweights Hiromu Takehashi and Dragon Lee.

I think people just didn't want to boo last night, but having a big nasty evil heel making everyone's hero who has never tapped out, tap out is gonna make people boo.

John losing was always going to piss of at least part of the crowd, no matter who it was to. The problem with a face beating Cena, let's just say LA Knight (YEAH!), they wouldn't really gain anything long term from it. At least with Gunther winning, he should be able to get heat from it for at least a few months if not longer if WWE and Hunter play their cards right. Will they? That's the real issue.

Let me preface this by saying, this is just a personal opinion.

I don't think there always needs to be someone gaining something. Shawn Michaels didn't gain a single thing from retiring Ric Flair and it was an amazing moment. Naito didn't gain a single thing from retiring Keiji Muto, but it was an amazing moment.

More recently Sting won his retirement match and it was probably one of the biggest good vibes moment ever in wrestling that I've seen. A packed legendary Greensboro Coliseum with everyone afterwards just soaking the moment all in together. Nobody gained anything from Sting winning, but 17,000 people left the arena smiling from ear to ear.

Gunther already has heat and he's a 38 year old former World Champion. If the goal was Gunther heat, that seems wasted and pointless to me. Gunther can get heat at any time by tearing apart any liked babyface on the roster.

Nothing wrong with sending a legend out with just a good match and a good moment, but that's just me though, so I can see why people in the crowd were upset.

It gives Gunther material to heel it up going forward. He can now cut promos about being the guy who made everyone's hero give up which in turn can give the rub to the face who beats him and so the cycle continues.

I hope that's not why they booked it the way they did. If they wasted one of their top 5 greatest legends retirements so Gunther, who is already one of their biggest heels in the company and didn't need the heat can have some promo material then Triple H is fucking fried <lol>

I might be wrong but I suspect Gunther is winning the Rumble and we're getting him and Cody at Mania.

It'll work if they keep giving Gunther these big moments. If they have him lose to Jey Uso in a few months or something then that's a different story

I don't think they were trying to generate heat for Gunther, but just add to his legacy. They seem pretty high on the guy. If in fact it was Cena's last match(I got my doubts), that's a hell of a feather to have in his cap. Other than old guys who do this song and dance at indie shows, it's pretty rare, if not unprecedented to have a guy go out like this on the main stage. At least in the long term. We all saw Flair wrestling after he lost his "retirement" to Shawn Michaels for instance.

If that truly was Cena's last match, then Gunther has what nobody else has, and is immediately elevated to elite of the elite status.

By FAR the worst part about attending AEW was listening to the losers in line. There was one guy who looked just as annoyed as we were, and we did a knowing nod to each other. He was also probably the ugliest person ive ever seen in person. Whoo wrestling!

What a horrendous, disgraceful, apocalyptic (and predictable) final run that was for John Cena, with an equally atrocious (and predictable) finish. Wow. Just wow. And people thought WWE was bad under Vince.

I'm late to the party, but I did watch SNME with LTR. He was NOT amused. He was sure his childhood hero was going over. I said, "Well, my childhood hero GODDAMN DIED this year, so get it over it!"

In all seriousness, I'd like to congratulate John Cena for doing the right thing and thank HHH for having the COURAGE to do what had to be done.

Most importantly, I want to acknowledge OUR Austrian hero! The man who in one calendar year single-handedly ended the Yeet Movement. He retired Bret Hart's murderer! And he made John Cena GIVE UP. Let us all rise and recognize the Ring General! The Austrian Superman! The hero of our time ... GUNTHER!
