Everyone sees Hitler as the clear cut worst leader in History. And that might be true. But really we have a trifecta of evil and terror with Mao, Stalin, and Hitler. Each man could make a claim for it. If Stalin was mad at you, he would kill you, your family, your friends, and sometimes the entire village where you lived. Some have his kill count at 20 million. But he was also a US ally, so he kind of gets a pass.

Those 3 are the goats of evil, death, and terror. If you did a top ten, add Ida amin, Pol pot, Nero, King Leopold II, Commodore, Caligula, and maybe Kim Jong il, who started a legacy of terror.

The USSR invaded Poland 16 days after the German invasion was complete. Seeing as the Germans & friends besieged Leningrad, got to the outskirts of Moscow and took 90% of Stalingrad, from the Soviet perspective maybe they should have gone first and grabbed all of Poland. Russia let NATO/US puppet regimes creep up to its border and look what it's dealing with now. Your last sentence has me confused there not sure what possibility you're referring to.

The "West" literally did not exist when China first came into contact with the ancient Greeks. Furthermore, they are extremely pragmatic (another great Chinese trait) and have no problem copying what they think is good and rejecting what is bad. This flexibility is one of the reasons they have survived for so long. If you are referring to the British Empire, well, where is the British Empire now? LOL.
