Wonderboy is lucky WW has so few MT fighters

Yeah leg kicks are a big part of kyokushin karate. For the TS to suggest leg kicks are some or of kryptonite for karate fighters is not really true.

Wonderboy isn't a Kyokushin guy I don't think

Seriously Wonderboy would get fucked by a good muay thai fighter. History has shown time and time again that Muay Thai counters karate. Infact, when the great karate fighters first started to seek out fight promotions to test their styles in real battles they came to the thai leagues. This is where they would all get completely dominated by low kicks and knees during their blitzes. Infact, the low kicking of their bladed stance was so bad that it spawned a whole new genre of "kickboxing" aka the above-the-waist tournaments. Back to Wonderboy, he actually fought his kickboxing career in these leagues, all the way until he entered MMA. In the UFC he has fought zero leg kick specialists. A total of 8 leg kicks has been even attempted against him in his full run, 6 of them landed. Im just here to tell you that the first man to pit his gloves up tight and hammer that leg will walk out with a win over Thompson. May it be Cerrone or Woodley(if he remembers he can chop trees with the leg kick) but it will happen. Once it does im reviving this thread that will only get "wonderboy es numbr wan" replies
You forget that Wonderboy is also gifted in that he's a 6ft Giant

Just look at the reach he has, it's almost like he's hitting Hendricks from the opposite corner

Any street fight is basically a fight for your life as its uncontrolled and theres no guarentee a guy will stop choking you after lights are out. So yeah, I've used and will always use leg kicks in fights as they f*ck people up because most average drunk lugheads have no idea how to counter and a couple well placed ones end it. Even if you only do limited damage they are part of an overall arsenal to set up different attacks
Remember Karate is old as hell and is from Japan, you also learn the staff and sword so you know it's old (meaning no drunk frat boys). With the low roundhouse there is a large chance that you damage your own foot, smaller chance for the shin, (no shoes old Japan). Also low kicks require daily conditioning, Karate was not made for professional fighters. Karate uses the low push kick (Holly) which can bust the knee while putting your leg in no danger and the foot sweep (Lyoto) which leads to ground/pound.

Muay Thai has its own history and reasons for its attacks. And it doesn't beat Karate, it's the man that makes the suit.

I disagree. Muay-Thai has proven to be a flawed striking base against other striking arts. The range, punching, stance and defense are flawed. Kickboxing or a combination of Boxing+Taekwondo are the best standing arts.

"Top karate fighters can beat any style," Where is the evidence that supports this statement. Many people think Machida was purely a karate guy but he's been training bjj for over 15 years. He also trained muay thai in Thailand. Even if he did use karate as his base, he was never a dominant champ and got popped for PEDS. Wonderboy is the closest thing to a pure karate guy ever to fight for a UFC title. Lets see if he wins the title and defends it a couple of times before suggesting karate as a dominant art in MMA

What's your point? There are no pure Muay Thai guys either. They would all get fucked in the UFC.

So that's why brown beat him. Makes sense now

but he's unlucky cos wood knows twitter and IG. #iswear.

tsch.

I guess that can be said of any fighter. Then again Matt brown beat him pretty clean with very basic Muay Thai

Everyone has a style that can beat em

And Khabib is lucky that 155 doesn't have the wrestling of 170.

Lucky for wonderboy it's MMA and not Muay Thai.

Thai fighters would get badly beat by wonderboy in American kickboxing rules...what's your point, it's MMA, if he is getting beat standing up he would have the chance to go for a take down.

Different arts have different rules.

I think wonderboy is a little better conditioned to take low kicks and knees than the shiney pants Kickboxers from the 70s tho, his stand up has evolved and I think you'd be surprised.

Muay thai isn't Karate's kryptonite.

Shogun is awesome and a lot of people are using Shogun Machida fights as comparison, which is fair.

It's also fair to use Lyoto vs. Thiago Silva as an example.

This is pure bullshit.

Karate has destroyed MT on many occassions and especially so in the holy grail of standup sports, K1. Karate being fucked by MT has been categorically proven wrong in K1.

Aside from all the great karate fighters in K1 like Andy Hug, Glaube Feitosa, Jerome LeBanner, etc. the most dominant King of K1 ever, the true GOAT, is a Karateka. Musashi, a karate specialist, destroyed Muay Thai champion David Dancrade as well as beating pure MT World Champ Kaoklai.

Good MT fighters will beat not so good karatekas, and vice versa. A good fighter can compensate for the styles difference.

Hey real quick, do you understand the difference between a karate guy fighting 80 fights in K1 and a karate guyvthats experienced 8 leg kicks in his full pro career?
