My Grandmother loved Casino environments, and I never understood why, what was the allure? She wasnt a bored wealthy person, former celebrity, or whatever. She just liked the vibe of the environment, and bought j to the scam of selling hope.

I don't think its about selling hope, well maybe to inveterate gamblers but many people like the vibe as you said - casinos are carefully designed places to make people spend money. She probably likes the sounds/sights like I was when I was younger at video gaming arcades.

Depends how wealthy you are. Those places are equally filled with bored rich housewives, as they are desperate folks thinking they're gonna strike it rich. I imagine winning at the slots is akin to knocking out Ken with Ryu in "Street Fighter", to the people who don't have to give a fuck.

I dont disagree with that, but why are they there? Why does a wealthy person hang out in a Casino instead of literally anywhere else? 2 reasons:

1) they cater to whales. The Casino staff becomes like your personal staff.

2) the one thing they'll never say no to is more money.

Those places, the foundation of it all is money-changing. Literal churches of dollars. What's hilarious is the deal the Mob made with the Mormons who essentially ruled here to build this place. When asked about making financial deals with killers based on hedonism, the Mormons said "...well, they're not killing any of us."

One of the excuses they are using is that a Gaming company owns the slot machines, not the Casino itself, but the Casino and the Gaming Company have the same owners (3:30 minutes in).

It appears the Casino structured the business in such a way as to legally seperate the liability for the machines from the Casino. Casino says it's not their fault, they only house the machines (4:15 minutes)

Obviously you hope to walk out with more than you walked in with, but most gamblers know that's not going to happen regularly. I think most people who gamble regularly do it because it's fun. It's just another form of entertainment - when I go to a casino I know I'm going to drop a couple hundred dollars, the same as if I went to watch a sporting event.

That's what they said about numerous other similar cases and the casino didn't pay out. People still kept going - most likely because it's the closest casino location to them.

This reminds me of the case of Phil Ivey winning 7.7 million at a UK casino. He was able to read a defect in the actual cards and win millions. It's not his fault the cards had a defect.

That's not thorough. He had the dealer rotate cards, implying a superstition, to aid in the identification. By law, this is a blatant interference in the game, knowingly or unknowingly. The law appears to have been upheld well here. If he'd done it without using the dealer to help identify the cards I'm sure he'd have been clear.

They do it every year, just like the video says. Harrah's in Cherokee did it when the first opened for a 700k jackpot.

Sure it is. They likely prey on those people more, because they don't give a shit and just throw their money away. Most aren't addicts. They're just people with money to spend, looking for a high. If you're going to a casino in the first place, chances are that you have a decent amount of disposable income to gamble with. They're not preying on down and out folks who go in there with $50 to their name, hoping to strike it rich. That's just gravy to them.

Sure there are addicts and down and out types, but the big fish are the swaths of middle class folks, who might gamble a few thousand on a weekend. Practically tourists. There's millions and millions of those folks driving their profits, compared to a few millionaires who might bet big, and people on their last legs looking for a miracle.
