Will an Indian ever hold a UFC strap?

I smoked a joint with some Sikh dudes in the row behind us at GM Place while watching Liddell vs Franklin lol.

Yeah man, that sounds about right when you're in Vancouver. Were you blazin' in the arena?

Yup! In the 100s section, even. I've been to a lot of arenas in my day but could never imagine pulling that off inside Staples Center lol.

I'm from LA, so smoking weed isn't that shocking but to do it inside a sporting event (herb, not vaping) was a thrill. Concerts are one thing but there's a lot of Staff Pro around usually at games/fights/etc.

Youre underestimating how hard the sport is. The matches are gruelling and long, they catch the ball without gloves and run a shit load with equipment on.
They have fucking tea breaks .....

Thats funny, because if you worked in an 'Indian heavy' area I'd think you would know the difference between the like 4 different south asian stereotypes you just rattled off.
i dont know everything about indians.
i only know things through whatever convo i have with them.

I work with a ton of Indians and they don't seem to be into MMA much. That said, India is a massive country with over a billion people. One would think they'd be able to produce a top tier fighter or two.

However all the Indians I work with don't seem to possess an athletic bone in their body. I'm confident that if my office had an open weight tournament I'd at least make it to the finals.

So, will we ever see Dana putting the belt on an Indian fighter?

Never will there be an Indian, nor Chinese champion. Frankly, I don't see any Asian countrymen rocking a UFC belt. South Korea probably has the best chance even though it's the smallest country.

Full South Korean that is.
Bj Penn and Benson are both half Korean.
Not to mention GGG is also half Korean.

You can't possibly see a Thai dude at 125 in the future holding a UFC belt, assuming the division sticks around? There will be Thais in the UFC at some point...imagine what they could buy winning a $50k PotN bonus. The money in MMA will be too much to resist, even if the sport stays illegal in Thailand. MMA is still illegal and France and French dudes still find a way to fight MMA.

Are they allowed to drink before they enter the cage? They seem to get fired up and can't handle their liquor. Liquid courage ftw!!!!

i thought you meant Natives! haha!
neither have a chance, cuz too useless.

Anything is possible. But MMA in Thailand is still brand new. Perhaps in the next 20 years they'll be some Thai's that can start grappling early so they have a chance on the big stage, but for now they'll remain on one FC cards.

Not to mention, Muay Thai is no longer the mainstay in high level MMA.

What would you say is?

For what it's worth, I'd say there is an overall lower level of MT versus boxing in MMA fighters when compared to the elite levels of the standalone sports.

Looking at it another way, albeit with a very small sample size, just based on resumes and credentials of the best from each discipline to ever appear in the UFC, you have Toney for boxing.

Who do you have for Muay Thai?

Cricket is where it's at in India.

Jinder Mahal will follow in Lesnar's footsteps and cross over & win a belt. Just needs his goons to help him avoid USADA.

LOL seriously? Where the fuck have you been, living under a rock? It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of WHEN.

Indians are a wonderful people but they gotta be pretty close to having the worst medals per capita ratio at the Olympics.

This seems to be true, which begs the obvious thought. India has so much untapped potential when it comes to its size and population... like China, with its billions of people too. It makes you wonder what cultural constructs are in place, that make India such a large, yet third world country. I know nothing about India, but I think their country is a religious one based on Buddism/Hinduism. In those religions, it is about turn the other cheek and karma and all that. At the same time, they must have an overwheling "ruling class" (i.e. small upper class and large lower class; no middle class).

With such a harmonious, homogenous, and intelligent society, one would think that India really could pull itself together like other Asian countries (Japan in the 50's, South Korea and China these days) and emerge. Seems like they are poised for that kind of positive growth if they could somehow get their shit together.
