Wilder on the heavy bag

You don't go full force on the bag.
He could just be doing little things hes working on in that video that we are unaware of.
Its not going to be like hes in 100% fight mode, ripping into the heavy bag.
that's true, that's why it's really a self-conscious thing working on something new with people around, you know they are judging you, but like my idol prince said when he was asked if he'd ever fallen while dancing, he said you can't be any good if you're not ready to fall. Personally, I don't think he Wilder looks that bad, especially for the crap I've been seeing (including andre ward on the heavy bag.) I'm just saying the same thing that his trainer, Mark Breland asked him about Zellenoff "Why didn't you knock him out?" after reprimanding him for even being in the situation. As far as 100 percent on the bag, fighters vary, I try to do a variety when I'm training, working on volume with not much power, working on power with perfect technique, working on power with horrible technique, it all helps. Tyson used to kill the bag, foreman did too, Ali would work magic on the bag but as in the ring, he didn't look to be trying to kill it.

i am not boxing specialist but thought that this looked bad, then i read this thread and it seems to be so. then somebody suggested to look at klichko's heavybag work:

and it still looks bad to me. i understand that these guys are monsters and best in the world but why does it look "amateurish" when they hit the heavybag ? are hws really lacking skill that badly ? (because when they fight it doesnt necesseraly look that way)

Didn't the the music and I didn't think he looked bad. Guess I need to leave now.

At the end of the day we should judge what they do to opponents. Hitting the bag is important of course but you can't really deny what Wilder has done to who has been put in front of him. The quality of opponents is another discussion but he can only beat who is in front of him.

no offense, but have you ever been in a boxing gym or hit a heavy bag? Wlad not only looks really good on the bag in that video, bu t his punches sound fantastic. That is a bg bag, prob 150+ pounds, and his punches are quick, snappy, and make the perfect sound.

I have done few months of kick boxing training. Didn't pay attention to the noise but his punches looked ok and that's kind of the way he fights, keeping the distance and stiffening up his opponents with hard jabs and straights. But still it somehow didn't look that impressive to me. Since i have never before seen hw working on the bag, maybe i was expecting more combos

You've just said it your self, Wladimir doesn't throw many combinations, so why would you expect to see more combinations on the bag?

He doesn't have any reason to do so. Maybe i was thinking that he can do it all really well and would show it on the bag and then come fightnight just use his best weapons.

Nah, usually a fighter will work his specific weapons on the bag, you rarely see a guy who is a wild combination puncher only throwing a jab and a straight on the and vice versa.

Everything you practice in the gym builds in to your muscle memory, so you want to be working on the stuff you're going to do in the fight.
