Why Khamzat will never be the star Poatan is

I think you're missing the point. With a guy like Merab you know what you're gonna get and either you like it or you don't. There is the expectation of what his fights go like. And if he happens to submit someone or KO them, it exceeds the expectation. So If you are a fan of his and like his fights, you're never really disappointed. I personally like Merabs fights, I know more than likely they're going the distance and how they will go.

But with the Khamzat/DDP fight, you had the complete opposite of what Khamzats fights usually go like. It was composed, low risk and complete control. His fans and most people were expecting the Khamzat will usually see, but were underwhelemed when the fight went as it did. The exptation coming in was that he would handle him like Whitaker.
I didn’t miss it because it’s moot as Merab doesn’t fight like that. If he did I would say it’s trash

Fax. He'd rather just win, even if it's not exciting.

I respect fighters like Mike Tyson who said 'I always wanted to be an exciting fighter'. Win... in style.

The biggest factor why Khamzat will never be a huge mainstream star is that he probably has zero female fans. The biggest MMA stars tended to attract at least a few female fans. GSP had them, and so did pre-downfall Conor.
