Social Why don’t we just allow poor people to be priced out of cities? We should allow them to be priced out and move to cheaper places.

a city chock full of rich people does not sound like a fun place at all. That is why the rich in cities like having token poors around, like artists and performers, waiters and bartenders, nannies and caretakers.

I lived in a town full of rich people once. The vibe was basically like a gated community, extremely boring.
My hometown isn't gated but I agree with all of this and see it happening. Nothing fun happens here any more without issue. We have an event here called Summer Nights, which is once a week bands play in the street for 2 hours. 2 hours per week. Someone always calls the police to try to get it shut down. They can't stand people having a good time in their presence. There's nothing here for kids to do. Any business that tries to move into the area- forget it. Its not happening. This area has regressed so badly, its crazy. How could there have been more here when I was 10 then then there is today?

Liberal cities are often some of the most expensive high demand cities across the USA.

Poor people are kept in these cities by affordable housing, section 8, and rent control….

What if instead of artificially keeping poor people in the city, what if we just let all of them be priced out?

We allow rents to go up and follow demand, let people who can pay market rate move in and those who can’t afford to, move to cheaper country side areas.

There are places in the US where you can buy a house for $10,000 that’s the size of a million dollar house in SF, NY, or LA

Honestly, poor people need to get priced out of cities instead of being artificially kept here by government.

Well.....provided the 'rich' people don't mind cleaning their own houses, taking their own trash all the way to the dump, cooking their own food in restaurants, teaching their own children, driving an hour an a half to get gas or groceries, and paying 3-4 x for everything else, I don't see any problem with your plan whatsoever LOL.

- Man. Not even Lex Luttor would do that!

It’ll become high paying jobs until someone wants to work them.

Remove affordable housing, remove section 8, and if you need maintenance crews in the city, then they would need to be paid enough to afford the city without artificial government subsidy.

Not everyone in affordable housing work, a lot of people would still be priced out.
- That will increase the prices of the places. I dont know where you guys live, that poor people and rich people dont interact and share walking paths. Thjey arent zombies with leprosy, that nobody can get close. Were i live we have the two extremes close. You get houses costing milions, to houses that cost the same as a car. And those people still talk btw them, play socer and discuss soccer. You remove a big number of people that make the money flow in a place, and thise place becomes a dead desert.

Don't worry, these rich citys will be ghost towns if these corrupt mayors keep letting illegal alien criminals ruin them. Look at LA, how long you think businesses are gonna stay there after their stores get looted and vandilized.

We had a food truck Fridays weekly event here but unruly teenagers actually were the problem and caused it to be canceled indefinitely. Target was nice enough to allow the even in their parking lot but the kids started running inside the store and messing with stuff and getting in fights in the parking lot.

Lots of outdoor activities available here but very few organized events like this.

What grade are you in?

Well, I'd assume that would mean that the poor would have to move place to place quite rapidly, because the rich like to invest in low income areas and flip it.

I'd also wonder what would happen to those doing low income jobs in wealthy cities.

Do you spend a lot of time thinking about priests locked in a room full of children? Only a maga trash would say some shit like this.
Do you you often have trouble distinguishing obvious satire from genuine opinions?

Who will cook your dinner? And lunch. And breakfast.

You realize a lot of millennial and gen Y literally eat 21 meals a week out, right? Why do you think they can't afford to buy a house?

Even millennial and gen y with good jobs are all drowning in debt and unable to buy property because they can't balance a chequebook (because banks got rid of them.)

My goal is to just let prices go up according to demand and the removal of housing subsidies for expensive areas.

If poor people can afford market rent, by all means.

Remove housing subsidies and housing prices will go down as there will be less people who can now afford the rent and thus demand will go down and supply will go up.

Government interference in the market artificially inflates the price.

Same reason the price of college has ballooned - Because of government backed student loans.
