Why does Jon Jones need to fight Tom Aspinall?

Gane was basically a decent win, good style matchup for Jon but Gane had fought for the belt previous. He was not some massive win though which crown Jones is the clear king of HW which he could rest on for years, he should have been just a starting point for Jon defending the belt relatively quickly against legit contenders.

I think we know the truth though, Jones didnt want to fight Ngannou so priced him out and waited until he was leaving, saw Gane as a good style matchup so fought him, then saw an old Stipe as a "name" he could beat without much risk whilst Aspinall was a dangerous up and comer he wanted to avoid.

What makes you think they're gonna strip him?
Well Dana was pretty clear that the Pereira fight will not happen and that Jon must fight Aspinall if he wants to keep the belt. I know Dana is a compulsive liar but he hasn't walked that statement back yet.

Tom also said that they told him his next fight is for the title no matter what.

Looks like Jon is stuck between fighting Aspinall or lose the belt.

Ummm.... Shogun was supposed to fight Rashad Evans. Rashad Evans got injured. The UFC offered Jon a short notice title fight against Shogun.
The rest is history.
Even worse: When Rashad was injured, they went to Rampage as their first choice, not Jon. Rampage said it was too short notice, so then Jon got the nod and Shogun accepted. He was basically #3 in line.

Much different than today where we actually have an official backup chosen for the event, so when one of the guys in the title fight dropped out, that would be ready to go. But instead the remaining guy said no to the official backup, so then they went to the #3 in line for the interim.

This thread is just full of aids isn't it

Too many gimps in love with one fighter rather than the sport
