Why Do Some Big MMA Fighters Have No Chests?

Yup champs are only pretty good and not great

Steve Jennum is great.

lol at these genetically deficient sherdoggers. how much you wanna bet they have no chest themselves, so they do everything they can to discredit its functionality in sport?

because they are human beings and some have bigger chests than others?? Doing bench presses isnt going to make you a better fighter so why waste time on it?

^This, some some small guys could have a way biggrer chest than bigger guys, genes maybe?

Speaking of guys with underdeveloped pecs, I'm surprised these two didn't come up

honestly first time I saw Aleksander Emelianenko fight, I thought he was seriously out of shape and just didn't look like a fighter. I'll never judge a fighter based solely on looks again

Genetics and functional strength would be my guess.

But seeing as you posted nothing but BR's maybe all the extra mass goes to their females booties?

It's proportional to the rest of his body, at least on Anderson. Alex has a layer of fat over so it's hard to see, but it looks like he'd have some decent pecs if he dieted down.

They restrict punching angles.

Also unnecessary oxygen burn.

size of chest doesnt always correlate to strength / muscle - lots of dudes look 'big' but really just have a lot of fat on their chest - i think the skinny defined chests are just fine

I spend more time with my fighters building strength and power in their posterior chain instead of building up their beach muscles

We focus more on squats, deads, kettlebells, Olympic lifts...the stuff that builds real functional strength

posterior chain ftw. followed by quads, abs, hip flexors, and shoulders

Timmah defended it more times than Brock, and he's got tits.

Tim Sylvia had 2 consecutive title defences. Same as Brock, Randy, and Arlovski.

He had another defence across a different title reign if that's how you're coming to 3

Being big and muscular in MMA isn't necessarily a good thing. They have to have more functional movement than just strength. Cardio is more important. That's why runners are never muscular.

now let me educate you noobs a little here .. :) the reason fighters dont have body builders chest is that when the put your hands up so to protect your head from a straight right .. you will not be able to pull your hands close enough due to the mass of your chest .... if you fight a body builder you will 90 precent of the time be able to hammer him with a straight right ... it would simply make your defence worse and your punches crappy and slow ....

when i say this you prolly think HEY what about mike tyson ... but mike dont have big chest either ... just wide .. and big enough for his frame

1. Yes he does have a big chest. No one said he was a body building champion, but he does have a big chest.

2. The question was about underdeveloped chests, not body builders. It's not like there are only 2 types of chests

Who the fuk cares, seriously,

What does a Man's chest have to do with winning a fight?

Stupid thread, TS likes looking at man pecs

They don't lift hard enough or seriously enough. A small chest Betrays a lack of motivation, in my opinion. Actually, if you we're to bet on fight outcome based upon chest size i am pretty sure you would win more than 50% of the time
