Why Do Some Big MMA Fighters Have No Chests?

That's not strictly true.

In terms of protein, yes. I know that the amount of fat and carbs varies in each of those, but if we're strictly talking protein, all of those sources are equivalent. I didn't mention, say, 25 grams of protein from bread or rice or beans b/c those don't have the amino acid profile of whey, milk, cottage cheese, and meat.

They also vary slightly in other factors, most aren't very relevant though.

Not this thread again....

You're actually right, protein from meat/milk is very similar.
It's been proven that vegetal protein is harder to process and not as efficient.

Weird thing I noticed among some fighters who are otherwise muscular.

i'm friends with a few guys you've only seen on TV. trust me when i tell you, if you saw these guys in tight shirts in real life, you'd say "holy FUCK i didn't think they were that buff from when i saw them on TV!!!"

i guarantee this.

Fighters have to be careful about working their pecs, or this could happen:

They are Brazilian so they got all that extra in the trunk instead.

They have to make weight and pecs aren't really particularly useful in punching, elbowing, wrestling or whatever.

Some people have easy time developing pecs, but those who don't just don't bother with wasting time on them in the gym, they have more important things to do than bodybuilding, after all.

Because pretty beach muscles are not the most important priority for a top MMA fighter.

its a common thing, do pushups with your hands close together more importantly, medial (closer to your center) of your shoulders, uses less chest and more tricep. move your hands distal(farther from your center) of your shoulders and it uses more pectoral muscles. now imagine you have your hands distal from your shoulders and then your shoulders expanded so that your hands are now medial, uses a lot less pectorals.

people with broader shoulders have that effect slightly happening to them their entire training career while striking, grappling, calisthenics and tons of other situations. unless they purposely adjust or lift with focus on their pecs.

Not really a great example with that pose.

The pectoralis major is responsible for flexion, abduction and medial rotation of the humerus. This means it contracts when it brings the humerus in towards the body and it stretched when the arms are brought outward like in the Jones photo.

This. Pec muscles don't directly benefit your body for fighting as much as other muscles do.

When you need to make a certain weight and can only pack on a finite amount of muscle the chest is usually the last place to do it.

There are very few heavyweights that actually need to cut down to 265. The though process for the average heavyweight would be to build anything and everything on the body for a weight advantage.

I took a beginner kickboxing class for the 1st time a couple weeks ago. Guess where I felt it in my upper body the next day?

My biceps (mostly here) and my back. My triceps, chest, and shoulder didn't feel like they were worked at all.

yeah he needs to change his workout routine to get a bit more balance between upper and lower pecs.

Had his pectoral removed surgically i believe. Needed it done
