Who is tougher competition? Old man Stipe or Ferrira?

Theres a chance Fereira could KO anyone in the opening seconds. But if not, hes getting smashed.

You could say that same thing about Tom. There is very little talent at HW in MMA. HW that are talented are going to be playing football or some other sport where they will make far more doing far less damage to their body. Boxing has some HW talent, because top HW make huge money.

This will really depend how Stipe actually looks.

If he instantly melts, we can call it a tie. Skills mean nothing if you're completely shot.

Age catches up to everyone. Ferreira would smoke the current version of Stipe.

Guys you gotta understand, fighters don't retire when they're still the best. They retire when they know they've declined.

And someone will point to GSP, and yes he's the lone exception, but he wasn't 42 years old either.

There has been exactly ONE fighter that was still elite at the age of 42.

The odds say Stipe is shot. Done. Kaput.

I mean, the guy looked slow as hell last time he fought, you think he got faster with age?

Stipe at his best is obviously better but his current level is VERY uncertain.

If the situation were reversed and we had an ex UFC champ who hadnt won a fight in 4 years fighting in another org and a new name coming up with some good short term results in the UFC you can bet the new name would be WAY more hyped.
Amazing.

Do you really not realize that's exactly what just happened with Francis and Ferreira anyways?

How'd that work out again?

Ferreira for being a decade younger, bigger, faster, stronger. Stipe is more technical but he's 42 years old...

What we last saw from Stipe wasn't very reassuring... who knows how he'll look like if he ever fights again? It's been almost 4 years since Ngannou son'd him.
Don't fool yourselves, the guy's retired and the Jones fight is holding up together with hot glue, duct tape and a lot of uncle Dana's bullshit.

At this point, despite not being on Stipe's (the one from the good old days) level, Ferreira's a way more dangerous fighter

That's not something I want to see again

Stipe got ktfo in his last fight over 4 years ago. He's in his 40s nobody knows how he'll look but I doubt he's going to pull a Randy. I wouldn't favor him over anyone at this point.

Renan is a bum, a can, a scrub. I wouldn't even label him a journeyman fighter. But who else were the PFL gonna feed to Ngannou? The talent pool at HW is already thin in the ufc let alone other places.

Fighters don't get to this level unless they love the sport. They don't want to retire. They don't want to admit that they can't do it anymore.

That's why you have Tony Ferguson, Fedor, now maybe cowboy, wanting to keep doing it after they should've stopped.

You think Stipe didn't go through all those same emotions? I guarantee he did. And at the end of it all, he had to admit to himself that he wasn't good enough anymore to keep doing this.

Nobody at age 39 says "I'm gonna take 3 years off and come back stronger!"

If Stipe had any chance of winning the belt, he wouldn't have retired.

Stipe has wrestling, all he would need to do is take Ferreira down. Even at his age I'd heavily favor him.

No one would pick Renan over a prime Stipe. But you're a fucking retard if you think he's in his prime now.

I like Stipe, but he's a lamb being led to the slaughter... this fight is just a bad joke to take away from Stipe's legacy to prop up Jon's. I am happy that Stipe is at least getting a big bag of cash for this, and there would not be a single person opposed to this fight, myself included, if there wasn't some phony belt attached to it... but the way it stands now, it just makes the title look worthless, and makes Jon look like a bitch for not fighting the legitimate contender.

What does that make Francis for fighting Ferreira then?

42 year old current stipe?

Inconclusive. Not enough data.

Stipe could come out like Bambi BJ Penn against edgar the third time for all we know.
