Who is the better boxer out of Topuria and JDM

JDM has way better boxing defense and knees/kicks so I think he's the better striker but Top has some faster hands

Ilia is the best boxer in the ufc right now. *edit offensive boxer. Max and volk did touch him up.

Topuria. Both have great combos, mix up their shots well, good head movement + blocking. Ilia is better at cutting off the cage though and his power/hand speed is higher.

JDM was getting hit by Belal. Topuria is knocking fools out without being touched.

Topuria clearly appears to have the better boxing fundamentals.

Topuria. He can get hit, but has much better footwork and generally is better at resetting and keeping in stance. Both are still improving, so it will be interesting to see both in their prime.

it's hard to say because Topuria's offense and his intangibles: like his ability to read the distance with just his eyes and not having to use his jab or reach out to gauge the distance, are fucking incredible. but because he's so offensively focused he gets hit.

JDM is a better mixture of defense and offense but he's also there to be hit because he doesn't exit the pocket when he's not doing work and gets pinged resetting. he does have a way more diverse attack though because he can seamlessly transition from orthodox to southpaw and reverse using the shift. it helps open up more angles and surprise guys where as Ilia, you know when he's coming and how he's going to try to do it to you. pause.

i can't say, they're 2 very good boxers and that's my opinion of it. no better or worse than the other, just different.

Good read!

Lol how is this a question? Topuria humiliated two goat-level featherweights. Made Volk and Max look like they didn’t belong in the octagon. Meanwhile Giacomo D.M. looks good against Basil Hafez and we’re talking like he’s Floyd Mayweather? Lmao

JDM put on a clinic vs Belal but I gotta go with Ilia. Plus he doesn't get hit as much.

Look I know at the end of the day the KOs are what matters but both fights were competitive before the KOs.

By the eye test Top looks better, but he never fought a guy that's stinking up the place like Belal, or a grappler like Burns. I need to see more.

Can we possibly get a poll

Two different fight styles but both very effective. Topuria has stupid KO power but JDM is very good both defensively and with his output.
Belal was landing 1-2s and 1-1-2s all nights long on Jack.
Ilia knocked out max with a series of hooks.

The overhyping of JDM recently is something else. He beat Belal ffs. It wasnt even completely one sided either in spite of being a largely stand up fight.

Which one is it boys?
It’s the second one. Topuria has a better guard, and bobs/weaves better. JDM has better footwork/lateral movement and head movement. All of those can be classified as defense. But the way that Topuria does it is more like what they teach in traditional boxing (sometimes this can be to his detriment and it gives the perception of worse defense because guarding is less effective in MMA than it is in boxing due to glove size and how much more powerful kicks/knees are). JDM is a better kickboxer. Topuria is the better boxer.

If it was boxing, they'd be three weight classes apart. And their styles are nothing alike.

Ilia is a pocket boxer with great combos and level changes.
Downsides? He's too frontal, but maybe it's the gameplan.

JDM boxes at range and flanks the opponent.
Downsides? Defense and his feints being so blatantly obvious.

JDM style suits him better vs a wrestler, probably.

Comparing hand speed of two guys 25 lbs apart is inherently flawed, but JDM didn't seem quick at all.

Belal's striking was just pressure with no range management or defensive responsibility behind it, IMHO that was what made him look good.

Belal was top 3 P4P at the time (imo) with a massive amount of momentum behind him. It was a huge statement win for JDM.

Belal has good wins, but top 3 fighter in the world? Idk about that one. Pretty much every current champion is better or has better wins. Not to mention a few recent ex champs (Topuria, Poatan) and interim champ like Aspinal.
