Who in the heck is watching the UFC?????

Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhh

I don't like fighting anymore waaaaaaaghhhh

I know a lot of casuals that watch. And UFC gets heavy play internationally too.

If you need twitter beef and twitch streams to get excited about martial arts, that says more about you than it does the fighters.
I didn’t say twitter beefs. Look at what Alastair did to make sure he was a star? The reem series is better than anything that ufc has put out in years.

And the main thing…. You need to win in exciting fashion! Shit fights will get you a shit career. You have to make people invested you. Unless you’re trying to say you follow all 700 fighters, then I say you're full of shit

10-15 years ago many/lots of people talked about MMA at work.
Who was fighting next, it was a pretty regular thing when big cards were coming up.

Now in 2025... nothing crickets.

I refuse to believe the old farts are just out of touch

I just don't hear these pricks talking about it anymore

Paddy Freaking Pimblett???????? What a world

I've just determined that they're purposely making the UFC suck dicks, so we will lose interest and stop pirating their product. I watch their tripe less and less. I still watch other orgs, and actually pay for their stuff

They should just Netflix their events. Do they still do PPV? It’s been over a decade since I purchased an event.

I don't think you necessarily need just young people, though they have the added benefit of being able to be fans for hypothetically longer. What need is just "new fans" by being able to appeal to different demographics through different methodologies. And get them to stay around by offering a quality product that will compel them to stay engaged.

F1 has grown increasingly popular thanks to "Drive To Survive" on Netflix giving the personal stories of the drivers and helping fans understand how much time/money/effort/passion goes into racing. They've managed to get a bunch of Americans that have never given a shit about race car driving a way to understand the sport and care about the people involved in it and because of this they've experienced tremendous growth in the US to not only young people but women.

What's the UFC doing different to promote its fighters and help people empathize and care about them? It's all the same old shit (Ultimate Fighter, Embedded) and they added DWCS to further take away from regional MMA and use as another feeder system to get talent into the UFC as cheaply as possible. But the public has almost no vehicle to learn about fighters and fighting outside of the same shitty vehicles they've been pushing for decades now. Not shockingly growth has stunted entirely and is arguably regressing as they continue to water down the product.
I think that the UFC and it's owners believe that the fighters becoming more popular is up to the fighters themselves and how they chose to do social media to promote themselves. I think the UFC cares more about it's own brand rather than getting people to know the fighters. Which is ironic because most people who became fans of this sport during the tuf era came to love the fighters not exactly the sport. Problem with that is, once the fighters they are attached to are gone, they lose interest in the sport.

All the legends that had lore are gone now. Every new fighter now has no aura like before.

I think there's a pretty clear path towards making the product a lot more compelling again, but it won't happen due to broadcast deals.

The quality of fights is clearly diluted due to the amount of events. Revert to 36 events per year (3 per month), cull the low end of the flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight and women's rosters and only use the god damn apex for DWCS/TUF.

Switch to an all-encompassing $30 per month subscription model, which gets you the 2 fight nights and 1 numbered event each month.

When I was younger I was really into it. Around 2013 life just got busy I fell out of love with the sport and became a casual fan that just watches the big fights. Most of my friends in their 20s-30s are similar and are kinda into it, but not really.

MMA has gone back to being a niche sport at least up here in Canada. During the GSP era up until around COVID it was huge here with many restaurants playing them and lots of independent shows and many people knew the more popular fighters.

Since then it's dropped off the face of the earth. I know many restaurants stopped playing the PPV's because the UFC changed the pricing for a restaurant and it went up to something ridiculous like $5000 per month. Nobody is wanting to pay $50 a cover to go and watch two good fights and then third from the top something useless like an Amanda Lemos or Justin Tafa fight.

Nobody knows any of the top UFC stars , people still reference Connor McGregor as a "UFC guy". The UFC has done a crap job creating stars or building any excitement for the promotion.

In social media I've seen a 100 times more Joe Hendry clips then anything the UFC has done in years... and that dude isn't even in the WWE officially. The sport isn't necessarily dying, it just needs someone to think like vintage Pride and build up stars and make the big events at least appear to be a bigger deal.

I can't differentiate between a fight night, an espn fight card , or a PPV these days. The roster needs to be cut down massively and the UFC if they were smart would have a feeder league with up and comers fighting old names like Jim Miller or Clay Guida.

Not even Netflix sounds interested in the complete garbage they’ve been putting out lately

I have one coworker who is into it. He trains and his son actually fought in the UFC. Aside from that I don't know anyone who watches anymore. I work Saturday nights so I just read the pbp on here.
Who's his son

2009 -2015 i had about 5 friends that were big into MMA. Now none of them watch it anymore. I still watch because i pretty much don't do anything on the weekends anyway. But this year i have completely skipped like 4 cards in a row, and i usually watch at least one or two fights when its a crappy card.
