here is an interesting read on the Lee-Hagler fight. Marvin was pissed, accusing Steward and Hearns of scouting with Lee, and promised to blow him out fast.

Marvin was further pissed as the announcers refused to say 'marvelous' when introducing him,

A mad Hagler is not a fun opponent.
didn't he have an awesome record though? the hagler hearns fight happened at the right time. maybe hearns would have boxed had it happened earlier, he stopped kayoing people for a couple years after the booger ray fight.

If you had seen my record 39 fights in, you wouldn't have thought much of me. But in my 40th fight, I beat an ATG on points. Then I rematched him and lost a controversial stoppage where I was up on the cards. After that I continued fighting with middle results, until I moved down a division, won the championship and became a dominant force in it for years to come. I made a few forays into the division above, and while I lost more than I won, I was able to beat an ATG at that weight. Eventually, I lost my title to a very good fighter, fought a while longer with mixed results, and retired, a hero in my home country.

Still can't find this one.

He did and was ranked 5 and 10.

Marvin of course was convinced everyone was out to get him.

hagler had a ponderous right jab, you could hear it and it shook caveman when it landed, he hurt a lot of guys with that punch.

I have a family member in the boxing HoF and have been involved in fights in Mexico, Panama, Canada, Germany, Australia, Philippines and the US. I don’t believe a round can be even. I don’t think Joe Calzaghe should be undefeated. In one of the most anticipated fights at MW, I thought the Mexican fighter won, easily.

Last one tonight.

I was a Mexican legend before JCC, made my debut before I was 18 and knocked out over 20 fighters in a row. I fought over 60 times before losing. My first loss was to a guy I had already beaten. I knocked out over 75 opponents. In 1974 I fought an all time great in Los Angeles. We simultaneously landed monstrous shots in the 13th round. Until that point I was winning the fight. My opponent went on to fight in one of the most infamous and hotly inspected fights in history.

I am sadly forgotten, although one of the greatest at my weight ever.

I didn't grown up sheltered to put it mildly, but I guess you could cite me as an example that you can overcome adversity with willpower. My father tried to commit suicide when I was 5, I ran away from home when I was 9, and became a pro boxer at the age of 16. I'm a true road warrior, as I won the super featherweight title against a Puerto Rican in Puerto Rico, the lightweight title against an Scotsman in England, and I competed for the light welterweight title against an American in the US... Overall I competed as a pro in 4 different decades. Floyd Mayweather Jr. referred to me as his dream opponent in a fantasy match.

I don't get mentionned very often in this forum's discussions, even if I'm a true ATG. 17 years of pro boxing didn't prevent me from living a long life. After I lost my first world title against another underrated great I'm one of the few that went down in weight, and enjoyed even greater success against a bunch of excellent foes. I fought in many an opponent's backyard, and one of my victories against a tough SOB and fellow Hall of famer abroad caused a riot. There was less controversy after I KOed him in the rematch.
After looking like I was set to have an unimpressive run in my first thirty something, I fought the world champ and nuked him out in four. I brought the championship back to the southwest and became one of the most dominant champions in my division's history. I fought several men in the weight class above me who would become certified ATGs, losing each time. I retired on a draw, then came out of retirement to fight a few inconsequential moneymakers. Anybody who fought me in my prime will remember me for my fearsome power and ranginess.

I was in training camp with Tim back in 1985 when he fought James Broad in Buffalo. I was sparring with Hector Camacho who was on the undercard.

tim was another good fighter caught up in the fast life, back when larry holmes was getting gift decisions as most longtime champions get, tim was one he got one off of.

speaking of james broad, he's one of the boxers that Maurice Smith fought and got knocked out by, what a shitty managerial job, i thought when I saw that, you don't take someone with an extensive boxing record, ammie/pro and put your cashcow in with him, just stupid.
