Who am I?

Who am I?

I had a pro career, i lost my pro debut, fought 10 more times, avenging my sole loss, then retired because I knew i wasn't good enough to be champ. I then had a ref career where I reffed just about every major fighter of my tenure, building a rep that would put me into the Hall of fame without having to be a great fighter.

Who Am I?

I had no amateur career and still won a world title but fell short in my biggest fight with an olympic gold medalist in a unification fight. I never got a rematch.

I fought one of the four horsemen after one of his losses. He came back by kayoing me and I died in a motorcycle accident a few days later.

James Shuler.

Yes, schuler bought a motorcycle with the winnings from that fight and I think it was a week or so later that he had a fatal crash. Tommy, ever the gentleman, took the nabf belt to James' mother and said that he held that title longer than him so it really belonged to him. Tommy has to be about the nicest guy out of all four of them.

That's classy.

ya, i love tommy, just the nicest guy. They say duran was super nice too, Hagler was and is a good man. I've softened on leonard but he's nowhere near the others as a human being in my eyes.

Just watched the schuler fight, that was tommy at his peak in those years, he also had the experience of coming back from a devestating kayo before hagler so it wasn't something new. He actually staggered Schuler with a fully blocked shot and then landed the coup de grace seconds later.

This one is tricky. I was thinking about Qawi but he certainly got a rematch against Holyfield...

yes, but did he get a rematch against Spinks? yes Qawi, an exceptional fighter to do what he did, strange all around, long reach, hard to hit clean for a short guy. But Spinks was an even more unorthodox boxer who created problems for a lot of guys.

yes, but did he get a rematch against Spinks?

Ha ! You got me. I got such a fond memory of the first Evander fight that I forgot he went after Spinks.

ya, that was a unification wasn't it? it's been a lot of years but that's what i remember.

I hope this one takes a little longer than usual:

I had a brief amateur career before turning pro. But I still held world titles in three different weight classes. My pro career was over in less than 10 years and I won ⅔ of my professional bouts by (T)KO.

I bet this could be a lot of different guys.

^ I'll narrow it down with another cue.

After my career I became a trainer.
