Ben Franklin claims that Germans cannot acquire their complexion. If he is just talking about slightly darker white people(even though Germans and swedes should be completely pale) then he would not be concerned about complexion. He specifically refers to Europeans as "the Sons of Africa".

What about Giovanni Verazzano describing the Carolina Indians as "ethiopian"? Does that all the sudden not mean black also?

Generally speaking, their skin might be ever-so-slightly more tanned (a goldenish tan, rather than a brownish tan). I personally have noticed that with many Swedes, not so much with Germans. However what I am saying is that BF was not saying Europe was black or brown back then. Which leads me to repeating my last question to you: If Europe was black (or even brown) back then... where'd all those black (or brown) people go?
