Schedule is jacked up this week, so had to do double duty today to get all the weeks work in.

I tweaked my back a little during warm ups, but I kept moving around for about half an hour and it loosened up enough to get the work in. I started thinking there is a very real chance Godsen will tie my squat PR this weekend, and I can't have that, so I did one more single to give myself some cushion until I set a big year end PR. I did a little experimenting with shoes. I did one of the top singles with my oly shoes (1.25" heel), one with a pair of Safe SST's (.625" heel) I borrowed (they were tight as hell as they were only 12's), and then one with my flat shoes (Addidas Sambas). The Sambas actually felt far and away the strongest. I will stick to them for the time being. The bar has been pitching forward on me lately and ditching the heel made it 100 times better.

This is supposed to be my deload week for 5/3/1 push press, so I decided to deload Godsen style and hit a nice PR. The first one got too far in front of me, the second was right on. Good to get rid of that piddly 242x1 PR that had been hanging around forever.

CII rower was MAX effort. I got dizzy and nauseous afterwards but am happy to break the 1:30 mark.

Power beanie + 1 week beard growth + 80's music = new found strength and power

Great job, Donut. That's a man's squat.

A question: I was thinking of getting Sambas for squatting, since I've been using boots with a heel and I'm really too squatting too wide to use them. What do you think of squatting in wrestling shoes? They're flat, and I think they ought to feel about the same as Chuck Taylors. I've always squatted with a heel, so I'm looking to try a flat to see the difference.

Appreciate any opinions you have about this.

Anyone near Toledo, Ohio:

My gym is going to be holding an unsanctioned push/pull meet January 23rd. This will be a free, just for fun event. But we will have a real platform, Forza competition bench, and Okie deadlift bar and certified judges in the chairs. Single ply or raw, IPF rules (I think? will clarify once I get more info), standard weight classes with 2 hour weigh in. PM me if you are interested and I will send out information once it becomes available. I will be doing it, and I think briangodsen probably will so there will be Sherdog peeps there. This is a good chance to set some PR's on competition equipment/conditions without having to join any federations and have some fun. And you can do bench only or deadlift only, if say, for example, you just epicly pwn3d you bicep and aren't pulling heavy yet.

I don't really care for wrestling shoes for squatting. They are too soft and flexible for me. The Sambas have a thick hard sole and feel a lot more stable setting up. A lot of people like wrestling shoes though, and I use them to deadlift, so getting a pair of each isn't going to break the bank. I would get Sambas if you only want one.

Plus Fred Lowe might be there so you can meet one of the greatest American weightlifters ever.

Hit me with that PM, may not compete but will definitely come watch.

Thanks. I tried on the Chuck Taylors, and they're way too flimsy for my feet. I don't know how anybody can squat big in those things. I have wrestling shoes, but never tried squatting in them, only DL.

I am going to order Sambas tonight. How do the sizes correspond with your regular shoe size? They run big, small?

Pretty much sized right on for me, but I prefer Addidas shoes and I guess my "regular" size is based on them.

I was going to buy a pair, but after trying them on, I decided against them because I found them to be very narrow. When I would step, the sides would bulge out.

My feet aren't abnormally wide. Maybe just very slightly wider than average. I don't think I've ever had this problem with another shoe before.

That's good to know. My feet aren't super wide either, but a little wider than most. I'm pretty picky about shoes, so I'm going to be sure to try them on first, if I can find the right size.

Thanks.

Great job Donut. I wish my gym would put on a meet like that so I could compete without going broke.

A beanie while lifting is also awesome.

Who would that be???

I may very well be interested in this. Even if I can't pull heavy, I'd probably still do the DL portion and just hit whatever I can. Would I have to buy a singlet and all that?

Great job on the PR's. I'm laughing at +33.

Loved the beanie and beard.

507. from the way that looked, it is going to be a big end of year PR. Great job

love how strong you pop up passed the sticking point to lockout...fuckin awesome squat
