After a dominating win over spivac, he said that he would only fight for the championship. This condition seems wildly unrealistic now with jon vs stipe still happening as planned and aspinall as the interim champ.
I think gane is probably the biggest threat to aspinall but it's likely that Dana would feed aspinall jones and/or stipe first to have a large fight in the uk before giving gane a shot

Aspinall vs. Gane seems like the next fight there is to make. You can't give it to Blaydes even though it kinda makes sense as Tom needs to flush his L to him.

he had 2 title shots already, i don't think he's good enough to be the champ.

But who else is there? If you assume Stipe and or Jon aren't fighting him, there's no one left but Gane or Blaydes and you can't give it to Blaydes off a first round KO loss.

He's a great fighter with a fatal flaw he needs to address

He doesn't need to be a submission specialist but he really needs to at least work on his TDD otherwise he'll get schooled by every fighters with decent grappling.

He looks like an eternal top ≈5 gatekeeper to me.

You could have Blaydes, Gane or Almeida fight for it. There isn't a clear top guy among the three.

Imo spivac was the most dangerous grappler in the division

I’m really not interested in watching him fight for title. His one of the few fighters where his horrible grappling can lead to letdown/boring fights. I’m still mad over those bullshit performances he had against Francis and Jones.

If Tom has to defend the interim belt while he waits for the Jones/Stipe shithow and subsequent double retirement, Gane is the fight to make. Though Gane seems terrified of Aspinall and has done for a while, but the belt may be the carrot on the stick he needs to take the fight.

Re-book Blaydes bs Almeida for the next shot after that.

He's had a lot of opportunities, I'd give him another couple top 5 fights to be honest before another title shot.
Pavlovich or Blaydes perhaps.

That said Gane vs Tom could be an amazing matchup, could be a pretty mind blowing HW fight if it stayed standing.

Tom wants Gane vs Almeida to happen next. Gane had the chance to fight Tom recently but pulled out of the fight. Jokes on him I guess.

HW is in an awkward spot now because of the top contenders, Gane has lost two title shots, Jones and Stipe are only interested in fighting each other, Pavlovich just lost, and all that's left is Blaydes who Pavlovich destroyed, Volkov who Gane beat, and Jailton whose best win is Lewis

Seems like every option is a bad option in this situation. I hate to give Gane a TS for beating Spivac but not much is looking more logical at this point

I suppose Volkov does have a 3 win streak with Rozenstruik, Romanov, and Tuivasa so there's a reasonable argument for him
