Russia isn't the only one. Why do you think America was using Ukraine for sketchy biological research labs? Why do you think Hunter Biden was getting greased by Ukrainians? Why do you think American NGOs are so interested in Ukraine? Both sides are Machiavellian dicks, but at least Russia seemed to show a willingness to limit their part in it with the Minsk accords.

Why was an actor/ comedian who previously didn't even speak Ukrainian implanted as the president? Wasn't the previous regime much more pro Russian?

Are you aware of how shitty life was in one of the soviet satellite countries? They were systematically lied to, brainwashed and bled of resources for 50 years. Not at all comparable to post soviet circumstances.

Sure. Russia and China are natural enemies as they are both Eusasian expansionist empires. The only thing that stops this is the fear/respect they have of each other and more importantly, pursuing common interests such as undermining common enemies. The end of the cold war was the perfect time to bring them over to the side of the west. Russia was broke and desperate, China still didn't have their shit together, and the west was sitting pretty on top of the world.

Instead though the goal has been NATO expansionism, and undermining Russia's regional influence. For a full sequence of events check out the presentations of Vladimir Pozner, he is a French/Russian/American journalist and former diplomat. He has covered the subject extensively. The result is that circa 2050 when the new cold war happens between America and China, Russia will hate us and support China at every step.

Yes, American interests are vast. If it's a topic that interests you though it's probably a fun read. America had an ambassador to Ukraine who testified at a hearing about the matter and there were some intriguing revelations if I recall correctly.

I'm not a Soviet apologist, I am well aware they sucked and especially get no credit in this context because khruschevs border drawing shenanigans led to this whole mess.

American NGOs funded the Maidan protests and I believe there were reports of them distributing arms as well. The Maidan protestors instituted a pro-Western coup undoing the result of the recent election of a politician who campaigned on keeping Ukraine neutral.

I agree it's not as simple as anyone singlehandedly willing a major event into existence. The context is still important.
