What SUV should I buy?

I'm looking for a new vehicle. I've been hearing very mixed reviews of the new Toyotas and the new V6.
You can't get a V6 Highlander new, it was replaced with a dual turbo charged four cylinder.

What are you doing to be doing with the vehicle?

If you're going to modify it and turn it into an off-road machine, then I'd go with the bronco.

But if you're going to keep it on the roads 99% of the time then I really like Mazda. Check out their line of SUV's, in sure they have one that will fit your needs, and they're cheap so you'll have extra for accessories or a higher trim package.

Mazda is the best bang for your buck

i don't drive often because with my job i can use public transport and it's much more convenient, but when i drive on the weekends, i stick with my 2000 nissan xterra, and it works wonderfully. the only major work i've done to it was replacing the transmission after 250k miles. with parts and labor, it cost me a little over 2k. worth every single penny. it runs almost as well as it did after the first 10k miles or so. i'm forty-four and not looking to impress anyone nowadays haha, so it's great for me.

if i were the threadstarter, i'd stick with a tried-and-true model like honda or nissan, and get something in the mid-90's - mid 00 years. you should find something solid there.

Do those Mazda’s still have that protruding console? I looked at them years ago, but all the electronic controls protrude out, and don’t have a screen that is flat with the rest of the dash.

I’ve got a Chevy Tahoe and it’s hands down the most comfortable and best vehicle that I’ve ever owned. I still love it even after driving it for four years.

Just remember kids an SUV is a body on frame vehicle... Like a Tahoe, 4Runner, etc

Anything else is a unibody vehicle...car or crossover.

It’s hilarious to me that the automotive industry tricked a bunch of dudes into buying minivans by calling them SUVs.
It's true, most crossovers people love to call SUVs. Even Toyota calls a RAV4 a midsize crossover... But pretty much everyone calls theirs an SUV.

Yeah it doesn't stick up quite as far now, but it still sticks up a bit.

But honestly it's not bad. It's not like it effects the aerodynamics. I actually like it. It's higher and easier to see without taking your eyes off the road.

Yeah aren't real SUV should be Body on frame designs?

Here in my town even crossovers like the Ford Eco sport and Mazda CX 3s are called SUVs by some people.

I'm going to start car shopping this week and am looking for advice. I am mainly considering a SUV, because I am 6'6'' 270lbs, and I want AWD, and like bigger cars. This will also be the first brand-new car I've ever bought. Any opinions on what to get.? I want to be around $50,000 and will likely pay cash. I really like the new Bronco's, but they are expensive and get shitty MPG, but yet rad. I've owned Jeep Grand Cherokees in the past and have had good luck with them, but they seem like kinda dated tech. Also considered the new Hyundai and KIA SUV's, but they are very expensive to insure and seem to have mechanical issues. Toyota has a new land cruiser that is awesome, but above the price range and the new 4 Runner still hasn't announced a sale date. What's everyone else drive? Should I wait until more of the 2025s come out, or try and get those 2024 clearance deals?
I'm confused. You want AWD but most of the SUVs you listed are 4x4: Bronco, Grand Cherokee, Land Cruiser, 4Runner.

Do you need a low-gear transfer case? Have you driven your past vehicles in 4-high (like on a beach) or 4-low (live over broken rock or in very deep mud/snow)?

If you are not going to do anything more challenging than dirt roads then an AWD shortlist would be: Bronco Sport, Outback or Forester, Passport, Tiguan, Eclipse Cross.

I bought a used Subaru Forestor a year ago and I've been very impressed.

Reliable, AWD with 4x4 low gear capability, takes corners beautifully, feels very maneuverable and compact in urban environments but still has loads of room.
I've kicked the shit out of it on camping trips and its never missed a beat.

Get some roof racks and roof basket and you can load it up nicely for moving furniture etc.
If you put the seats down in the back its got room to sleep 1 or 2 people comfortably.

I want a 4x4 but will settle for a AWD if I get a smaller suv.

I wish Toyota would hurry up and announce the release and pricing for the new 4 Runner....
