What should Tom's gameplan be against Jones?

He's faster and hits harder, but Jon so crafty man. This is challenging for sure, which is why the fans should get it and Jon should stop being a duck or just retire man.

First and foremost he shouldn't give a shit about Jon's legacy or previous fight against mostly smaller lhw's, he should realize that he has KO power and Jon doesn't also has the size advantage and is well rounded so is Jon but age and mileage is a factor here. Tom should simply go for the finish with strikes and not look at Jon as some invincible God because he isn't at all, people act like Jon just murked all his opponents which is total BS he imo lost at least 2 fights at worst and at best squeaked by so he is far from invincible, Tom needs to realize this if not he could lose by letting anxiety and adrenaline get the better of himself.

Jones has a really high fight IQ. If we’re being honest, this is really what sets him apart. He knows what tools he has and he knows how to set up people to maximize his tools.

Anyone who wants a chance against him needs to use their fucking brain or they won’t be able to do shit.

He will just be in there trying to survive…

It’s all he really can do against Jones.

Get Jones on his backfoot, until he gets taken down, then armbar Jones from bottom.

Tom has to fight like he always does and let go from the start and be aggressive, he can't change because its Jon Jones.

I know what Jones and Greg Jackson are like, they will make a gameplan based on Tom has never ever been past 7 minutes in his entire career and has never been put on his back. They will try to make the fight slow at the start and be cautious and then start to push the pace as it goes longer and get Tom blown up and finish him in later rounds. So Tom must not be patient and cautious because its Jones, he should try to finish the fight early like always and let go. If he plays the waiting game I fear he will get taken to school.

There have been fights with one and sometimes two blinding eye pokes with no penalty. Max poked Justin twice pretty bad. No one seems to mention this, but I noticed Leon is a pokey guy in his fights.

There really is nothing but the fighter's own ethical principles that prevents intentional eye pokes, which is ridiculous. They really need to make some consequences. It's quite difficult to fight after a good eye poke.

Tom has the power to knock Jones out, and he likely will do it standing. Tom will just have to watch out for outstretched fingers.

Tom might have to take roids to keep up with Jones. The UFC isn't using a real testing body these days, so who knows what that leads to in this fight.
So you're saying Tom should aim eye (stage left) first and then eye (stage right) second? Good call, solid strategy and unpregnable gameplan

no change in gameplan... use the speed and power to get jones out of there early

i worry that if the fight goes past 2-3 rounds. Tom will fade hard. He's rarely been more than 1 round in his career, and no amount of training will get you ready for your first time seeing rounds 3-5 in a packed arena with Jones staring you down.

Bounce around, in and out, and punch him in the face. Jones has a lot of tools to stop that from happening, but at the end of the day he can't prevent 100% of an opponent's punches from hitting him. For Jones, it's imperative that he stop Tom from moving. That means kicks or takedowns (a clinch will probably not work out in his favour, but it could). We saw and heard him explain his thought process vs. Stipe, he needed a weapon at HW that can hurt anyone in front of him, even the biggest guys. He's going to try and set up that spinning back kick, to the body again or I think he'll aim one at Tom's legs and knees.

Tom and his dad just have to put themselves in Jones's shoes and anticipate that. If he can't stop Tom from moving like he normally does, he's going to get crumpled with a right hand in less than two minutes the same as almost everybody Tom fought.

100% agree when the round starts just be super aggressive go for his chin and follow up, the biggest danger for Tom is getting taken down but even then It's not like Tom is Gane he is actually good on the ground, really the only way I see Tom losing is anxiety and second guessing himself.

I think taking a close look at the first Gus fight would reveal a lot about how to connect on Jones.
