No way man, that is simply not true. You can see the stuff he was trying to do off his back, way more than what DDP was capable of against Chimaev.

But Islam just shut it down. He shut it down so bad, and that was what totally fuckin demoralized JDM. Nothing he did came close to working. He couldnt get out, he couldnt threaten. Everything he worked on was put down. Islam had an answer for everything.

I am not convinced that Craig Jones has all the answers to counter-wrestling in MMA. You can tell they practiced a lot of submission defense, but I feel JDM would've been better served had he worked with a wrestling specialist and learend the fudnamentals of chain wrestling and sprawl series from different takedowns.

Did the repeat of Petr vs Merab against wrestler in Belal Muhammad recently

Had a very counter grappling heavy training camp for the Islam fight yet he could do NOTHING At All. Its actually kind of crazy Islam made it look so easy as based on history JDM shoulda had his head if you look at his previous performace the last time he fought a Dagestani wrestler.

Islam faced a much better trained and much more experienced JDM but he looked like he was on a different planet when it comes to performance

Respecting your opponent’s legend is natural, but letting it reshape your gameplan from proactive to defensive hands the fight to them. JDM lost more in mindset and initiative than in technique. I believe a looser, more offensively focused approach could have neutralized Islam’s aura and altered the contest. In the face off, JDM was tight, tense, and looked worried. I guess seeing Hamzat dominate DDP spooked JDM.

I think of TJ’s approach to the 1st Barao fight as the best way to approach any fight.

Its easier to fight strikers then wrestling/grappling specialists
With strikers even if someone is way better then you there is always hail mary shot chance of happening
With grapplers 1 mistake and you are stuck and then you better hope your defense is good enough to at least make it through the fight,its why they all froze vs Khabib,Islam,Khamzat,Maia (at times,he lacked takedowns of previous mentioned ones).Even if you survive you will be gassed so chances of winning are still very small
I agree fighters should fight more freely against them but easy for us to say,we arent the ones facing absolute grappling monsters on the biggest stage

JDM was just an easy matchup. More of a striker. People made excuses everyone who took him down before.

And yeah even with Belal he barely won the title 48-47. He just performed his best at the right times, wouldn't be shocked if he starts to drop to lower top 5 after a couple fights.
