Rockhold?
He was primarily a grappler offensively. When he was standing it was mostly standing and getting banged.

I remember him mostly standing but mixing in the grappling at times when it suited him, kinda like Jones. He was primarily a grappler offensively. When he was standing it was mostly standing and getting banged.

I certainly wouldn’t put him in the same category as GSP, Hughes and Tito ffs.
Yeah that’s true, it definitely would have gone much better for him if he did take the grapple heavy approach.Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on old Luke, let's say he should have grappled lol
None of this is true. GSP did that many, many times in high profile fights and he was a relatively big star and considered one of the GOATs of the sport.No. However this is a discussion of entertainment and different mindset between generations. The Caucus fighters don't care about being entertaining and just want to win. Short term, its good for them but they aren't going to remembered or draw in a large audience. In addition, it's possible that they can potentially kill the sport if more matches are just taking guys down and lay and pray them for 25 minutes.
Prime Gus could box very well. Chuck was way too slow and predictable to catch someone like jones. So your saying Chuck beats those guys

That was the golden age of UFC LHW. Prime Jones and Cormier. Then you had Gus and Rumble, who would've held the belt in any other era. Behind them you had Glover, Davis, Bader, etc.Prime Gus was my all time top5 favs
Damn you Anthony Johnson! Also RIP of course
Silva was 40 or older by then and a shell of himself...and fighting up a weight class. Not a good comparison to prime Gus.Islam/Dustin was VERY exciting but @ShaggyDoyle won't bring that up, because it kills his argument, similar to DC's dominating but lackluster fight with Anderson Silva.
Gus was only 1-2 going into that fight and then went 2-4 after the fight. I don't really think he was in his prime. Anderson hadn't won in sometime either but at least he looked good against Diaz and one more punch against Bisping, he would've won but chose to celebrate early.Silva was 40 or older by then and a shell of himself...and fighting up a weight class. I don't think Anderson would ever beat prime Cormier or Jones--it's a weight class thing. But Gus lost to 2 of the best LWHs ever who were also in their primes and was still in his 20s vs. Cormier. Andy was years past his best days. He wasn't even in his prime in his last few years as champ, but managed to win until Weidman. There's no way a younger Anderson (who destroyed FranklinX2) would've been caught or KO'd by a jab like that. The wear and tear and mileage got to him.Gus was only 1-2 going into that fight and then went 2-4 after the fight. I don't really think he was in his prime. The UFC does not want in the new Paramount era

Paramount will force the UFC to become a mixed striking combat organisation only and ban grappling & wrestling because Paramount casuals find it boring and only want striking wars in the UFC only because they find it entertaining

Yes, it did and we all were saying style wise, DC is going to be a hard fight for Anderson, which he was. Shogun was already out of his prime in his late 20's, same thing with Gus. His legs weren't shot like Shogun's, but the training and gym wars took their toll on him sooner than it does other fighters. The point is, TS is simply looking for a way to get more hate on the Dagestan fighters.I don't think Anderson would ever beat prime Cormier or Jones--it's a weight class thing.
