What knife did you carry today?

Just got this last week. I'm liking it so far. I'm not a fan of large EDC blades. JMO.

pretty sick idea so many people are walking around with knives

I carry a gun and a knife (well two knives, but one is for tasks and not in a defensive role). I don't see what the big deal is.

Because I understand that guns and knives are used by criminals and don't just get up by themselves and commit crimes I also do the same to even the playing field out.

Irrational fear of an object is silly.

I've been carrying a knife for years. Number of times I've used it to open a box, bag, or other packaging? countless. Number of times other people have asked to use it for the same? countless. Number of times I've used it to cut rope, twine or cord? countless. Number of times I've used it as a weapon? zero.

It baffles me why anyone would consider a knife to function a weapon first and a tool as a distant second.

How large is that blade? nutnfancy did a review on the new lawmans and loved em, but I'm not sold until I see one in person. I'm not doubting cold steel, but spyderco has just done some much right with the stretch and endura it's hard for me to give them up. Cold steel blades in my experience tend to be thicker at the handle and wider on the blade, and I'm not sure I like it as much. I will be heading to a cold steel factory next month though, so maybe I'll get a chance to play with a couple!

The blade is about 2.5" in length and is 3mm thick. As compaired to a Spyderco? I would think the Spicerco would be a small notch above the Cold Steeel. I like thicker blades myself so I prefer the Cold Steel knives. And I can't argue the price. I paid $40 for my mini lawman.

ohhhh, that's the MINI lawman. That one actually looks pretty nice. Still seems a bit beefy to me when closed, but I won't know for sure how I feel about it till I have on in my hands. My experience with cold steel has been that they're fat when closed (in every dimension) which bugs me for an EDC blade. Maybe, maybe not. I like to carry as much knife as I legally can, which for me is 3.5" according to local law, so 2.5" is a little on the short side, but cold steel produces some excellent knives for their price point.

Any love for the kershaw mini cyclone here? It looks sweet. Pretty heavy though for an EDC blade.

Yea, compaired to other folders, cold steel knives are a little beefier and thicker. The mini lawman is just under 1/2" thick along the backbone and is 1 3/8" wide. Which is thicker annd wider then a lot of other good quality knives. It works great for me because I like beefier knives, but I prefer the shorter blade lengths in my EDC.

Let me know how the tour off the factory goes.

Hey guys. I posted on here a while back asking for EDC recommendations, but I still haven't bought anything, and I'm basically torn between three choices, so I figure that my best bet is to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about.

I'm looking for an EDC knife that's reasonably sized and comfortable to carry in a pants pocket that may have other stuff in it. I want a plain edge. I'm not super picky about what kind of steel, point, etc as long as it's functional and isn't a tanto point. I don't really care whether it is assisted open or not, but I would prefer that it have both an ambidextrous thumb stud and an ambi clip, although neither of those things are absolutely required. I'd prefer that the handle be black or dark green, but the appearance is really the least of my concerns.

I've narrowed my options down to the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, the Benchmade Mini-Barrage, and the SOG Visionary 1. Of these three, which would you recommend and why? Feel free to recommend something besides those choices, as long as it fits my criteria.

Define "reasonably sized."

Out of the 3 you mentioned I only have experience with the Benchmade Mini Grip and it's reallly a great, non-"offensive" EDC blade. The Axis lock is great and it makes for easy one handed opening and closing.

I played with a SOG Flash II at Sportchek and didn't like it as much as the mini grip.

Some of the Kershaw blades look pretty nice for EDC use.

I went over to my buddy's house the other day. The dude has like 4 karambits and knows nothing about them. To which I say "Let me learn ya how to kill a man with this." lol.

Anyway up until then I wanted to get one of the Cold Steel karambits. The damn thing is not balanced in the slighted. Very awkward flailing knife to say the least. Of the four the best was an ebay special. Not a bad little gem, but I doubt it would hold it's sharpness.

I'd like a blade that is about 3" long, with a total open length between 7 and 8". I'd prefer that the blade is relatively narrow/slender, but it certainly doesn't have to be. I have a buddy who has a Flash II, and I didn't really like it either. I haven't handled a Visionary, but I plan to try to the next time I'm in a sporting goods store.

The Mini-Grip is pretty much universally reviewed well, and it's cheaper than the Mini-Barrage, so I'm leaning toward it at the moment, and it's very likely that I'll end up buying one, unless I handle one some more and just totally hate it for some reason. Thanks for the reply.

Just bought this to replace a knife of mine where the lock had to go out for service

I fucked up the edge on my dragonfly trying to pry one of those heavy duty staples out of a huge ass document.

That's one of the reasons why I also carry a multitool; I use knives strictly as cutting tools.

I just keep one of those in my laptop bag all the time. If I need it at work it's only a few feet away. I also carry a flashlight. A lady lost an earring in a bar one time that I work with - earlier in the day she asked me why I carry a flashlight.

After we found the earing (on the floor - using my flashlight) I just motioned to it and went 'flashlight' - she laughed.

I carried a flashlight and multitool even before I got into security; they're great things to have on your person regardless of profession or lifestyle.

Which one. I was looking at the Leatherman Juice 2 as per Nutnfancy. But I'd get the one without the corkscrew.
