We're all fans, but is there something about the UFC that prevents you from being a bigger fan?

For me, i'm more of a traditionalist and like firm rankings and warranted title shots. Things like preferential treatment, especially with Jon Jones who held up the LHW division looking for favorable matchups, now holding up the HW division while simultaneously fucking over Tom Aspinal which impacts his legacy, really makes me hate some aspects of the sport...and Dana allows it to happen.

The way the HW division is being managed leaves sour feelings and honestly, makes me withdraw from the sport somewhat.

What are some things that make you withdraw from the sport or prevent you from maximizing your fandom?

By your title, I thought this was going to be a cringey/whiney post about UFC not having enough spectacle or fighters not having enough clout/there not being enough "big names". . . . I'm pleased to report that actually I think you're spot-on and I completely agree with you.

Call us old-fashioned, I guess.

I used to get the jitters when some of my favorite fighters would come out to the cage. I have not had that feeling in a long time, other than when I corner my best friend's fights. I feel that the UFC is lacking any fighters who garner star power.

Same things as everyone. Better pay, better athletes, fewer cards/watered down garbage, fewer women/125 lb males, fewer ads, less Dana White, affordable content, treating fighters with respect, no unearned BS title shots for Colby, Jon Jones, Masvidal etc.

MMA fighters are literally out there making more money in Polish MMA leagues now. The UFC is deliberately becoming a bush league.

They're not able to snap up everyone even if they want to because of the monopoly case.

I've been following and watching since before UFC was even a thing. I'm not sure what being a bigger fan even looks like.

Maybe if I had unlimited time and funds and actually went to fights live I'd be a bigger fan but I got to laugh at some of this "well if they got paid more I'd be a bigger fan" nonsense.

Pretty much Dana White all by himself. I am a huge fan of the MMA, but because of everything Dana, I find myself growing less interested in the UFC while still following the rest of MMA and combat sports as strongly as ever.

Most specifically:

-the lack of fighter pay (Dana's fault)
-the overwhelming prevalence of WWE-style trash talk by the fighters (again Dana, who also does it himself)
-the lack of rule enforcement (someone's fault, could be a lot of people)
-their right-wing political leanings (Dana)
-the "Dana White Privilege" (Dana, duh)
-refusal to support certain fighters or champions who's fights you don't fall exciting and/or don't talk enough trash (guess who?)
-the continued support for Jon Jones who is a terrible person, drug cheat, and is ducking Aspinall (guess who again?)
-the constant promotion of Power Slap, which I have no interest in but is being shoved down my throat (he's so bald)
-the APEX

I know the sport as big and popular as it is today because, in large part, the efforts of Dana White. But in my eyes, one day he can also lose it for them too. He's already starting to lose it for me.

I miss when the UFC was special. 12-15 events a year max.
Now there's fighting all the time by unknown fighters that wouldn't have been good enough to be in the UFC 10 years ago or so but since the UFC needs to put on fights a few times a month the roster size exploded and they find themselves on a roster instead of the regional scene.

Basically I'm sick of the oversaturation.

Same reason there's only 17 NFL games a year plus playoffs and then takes a 6 month break. Gives fans a chance to miss football and anticipate the next season. If the NFL ran games weekly or even biweekly year round after a year or 2 the NFL viewership would be down too because it just wouldn't be special anymore.

  • The gloves - way too many eye pokes - fix this shit
  • Too much time on the ground or against the cage without referee interuption
  • Stupid rules like no kick or knee to a downed opponent
  • Fighters like Aspninall and Chandler who are entertainers kept away from the cage by fighters who don't want to fight

Thinly veiled JJ hate thread…

But answering the question, I think UFC:
- manages rankings poorly. Unwarranted TS based on Instagram followers is a bad look for non-casuals.
- builds up fighters very poorly and have a bad habit of recycling past primes fighters in rematches nobody GAF about.
- should give up on WMMA. Except for a couple of vocal lesbians here like Ares Cuck, nobody gives a shit.

No tournaments and the silly ways they waste their talent (weirdly releasing good fighters and pissing title shots away to undeserving fighters) are the worst aspects from my point of view.

The rule sets and judging aren't something they can fix internally as far as I understand it.

There's shit that, of course, doesn't align with my values, like the shit paying structure, or the overt right wing alignment, but ehh, I don't look for ethics in companies.
I do understand yanks do, though, so that is going to be a problem for many would-be fans.

Too many rematches and interim belts
And I wish some fighters would fight more often than 1-2 times per year
Bigger bobs and more Vagene
Less diva shit, more banging
And more uppercuts
*Last but not least, bring back the hot dog brander and the old weigh ins format
what was the old weighins format

I'd love to meet up with people ay the bar to watch fights again but it seems those days are gone
