What do you think people do before they commit suicide?

For what it's worth, I think it's pretty common for people to act much more cheerfully once they've made the decision.

Giving away possessions is another common sign.

sounds about right

i would spend all my savings and spare cash on my friends take em out and have a big night on the town buy everything and just kick it with everybody one last time than just end it

There's a suicide note in the paranormal thread somewhere. It's very long. After reading it I felt bad for the guy but fully understood his choice. It was a very long read.

i didnt do anything out of the norm before i tried.....luckily my belt broke...eventually i realized how dumb it wouldve been

I hope the 2 post I quoted show up.

Anyway I had a maths tutor when I was growing up to help me with some exams, we were talking about suicide one day and he told me when he was a kid every day after they finished lunch some students picked randomly on that day would have to clear the whole dining room up. He said no-one ever volunteered, one day this quiet kid who didn't have many friends volunteered to do it, cleaned it and then later that night killed himself.

From the two autopsies I witnessed during school, one ate a really big bowl of minestrone soup before shooting himself in the head. I can't remember what was in the stomach of the other one who blew half his head off with a shotgun

On a serious note, if you are interested in the subject, this is an excellent arhouse-movie/documentary based on a true story:
IMDB: The Sound of Insects

A mummified body of an unidentified man was found somewhere in a Japanese forest.
A detailed journal found on site reveals the man committed suicide by self-imposed starvation. Who was this man? Why did he kill himself in such a manner?

It is still one of the most amazing stories to me, just imagine what kind of self-discipline is required to just lay down all by yourself and wait til you die.
But it's more than just self-discipline, he seems to have had some very strong but completely unemotional disregard for life.

If you are really interested in someone's thoughts right before they die, it doesn't get any more detailed than this movie.

so he literally laid down and starved to death?..

In Aokigahara im guessing. I watched a documentary about that forest. Very interesting.

Knowing that his life was over probably made him depressed. You have to feel like shit before wanting to kill yourself I imagine.

These days I'm pretty sure I'd spend my final hours writing letters or recording messages for the people I care about.

I don't know about being preceded by happiness. Probably for some people. I don't think I'd ever be sure I was going to go through with it. That's part of the reason I'd want to leave letters, rather than send them. No matter how appealing death sounds when you think about it, it's pretty scary when you're on that bridge, metaphorical or otherwise, trying to take the jump.
