Didn't like it? Amadeus then?

Didn't like it? Amadeus then?

I think TV was better in the early 2000s. The wire, Sopranos. But In terms of production quality, yes. There was a lot of trash reality tv back then too, so youre probably rightIn terms of art, movies are in a down period, but TV today blows away previous eras. Painters are more skilled than ever, but it's hard to judge other aspects of art in the moment. Popular music is also advanced technically (and the best lyrics blow away anything from other eras), but arguably at a down period in other ways, in part because the genres besides rap are kind of exhausted. Video games are a new form, and I don't really play. Hard to judge literature in the moment, but there are a lot of first-rate talents working (Egan just dropped a new one, for example).
I appreciate the optimismIt hasn't yet. You're living in the best times in human history and you don't even know it.
if you take out desert storm; so basically from 92-98, those were pretty prosperous years for western civ
There is an element of truth to this from a material/technological standpoint.
We have it CRAZY good in terms of material prosperity, access to the widest possible array of foods, entertainment that wouldn't have even been available to kings, 4 generations ago... Things like Cancer aren't an insta-death sentence, etc...
Socially and culturally, different story.
That's not even close to the truth. So you think war and genocide is "peak status?"
I believe this is the truth. We will always have set backs. That doesn't mean a decline in the long runIt hasnt yet, there will be set backs, but over all we keep marching forward with progress.
I miss that era so much man if I could I would go back in a heartbeat in snap of fingers.1990s. Best TV shows, music (nu metal especially), movies, rasslin, video games, clothing, etc. Had cell phones and the internet but they didn't control us yet.
