What decade did Western Civilization peak?

The US peaked post WW2. They were a clear economic winner. They had the most powerful military. The economy was gearing to peacetime production. And, the US is the West. Not a teeny little country like Germany or England. They don’t really mean anything due to their size.

It hasn't yet. You're living in the best times in human history and you don't even know it.

There is an element of truth to this from a material/technological standpoint.
We have it CRAZY good in terms of material prosperity, access to the widest possible array of foods, entertainment that wouldn't have even been available to kings, 4 generations ago... Things like Cancer aren't an insta-death sentence, etc...

Socially and culturally, different story.

The 1980s for me, because the economy was strong again, houses were still being made with quality materials instead of the cheap crap that most houses are made of today, and culturally the movies and music being made during that time period were top notch.

In terms of art, movies are in a down period, but TV today blows away previous eras. Painters are more skilled than ever, but it's hard to judge other aspects of art in the moment. Popular music is also advanced technically (and the best lyrics blow away anything from other eras), but arguably at a down period in other ways, in part because the genres besides rap are kind of exhausted. Video games are a new form, and I don't really play. Hard to judge literature in the moment, but there are a lot of first-rate talents working (Egan just dropped a new one, for example).

I think the '80s were an absolutely terrible decade for both popular music and movies, though of course there was some great stuff (Prince, The Police, Men at Work, BTiLC, The Terminator, Karate Kid, etc.).
