The comic book Bane design far outdates RE4

the very first post in this thread, pictures 2 and 3.

to be fair, a jacked dude in a freaky mask is probably a little generic at this point, but a solid RE 4 bad dude look-alike.

I'm no comic book expert but I always thought Bane rocked the mask because it shot him up with some roids that put him in killer beast mode. In the TDKR he's played like a pretty level headed intellectual villain and the mask is there to keep him alive? I dunno could be way off. The scene where he breaks Bruce's back was so anti-climatic I actually chuckled.

Agreed, Nolan knew the comic version of Bane would be ridiculous on the big screen. I actually loved Bane and the way he's portrayed as a roided up genius in the movie. The mask is still a little annoying but it's way better than having covered Hardy's entire head.

The comic version of Bane would never fit in withe Nolanverse. Scarecrow's mask barely made the cut it for me.

I'm pretty sure the appeal of Bane was that not only is he physically imposing, he's also very witty and intelligent. I'm no expert either and I could be wrong as well, but I think that's always how he's suppose to be portrayed.

If I remember correctly, the Bane character you quoted sucked ass. He was a typical meathead dummy and was a terrible representation of Bane.

It would have been great if they got someone a little bit bigger, but they would be sacrificing acting just for the sake of having some giant monster on screen. I think Hardy did alright and Nolan's adaptation of Bane was fine for the most part. I thought the movie could have been better, but Bane was the least of the problems I had with the movie. Just my .2 cents, of course.

I kinda agree with that. I enjoyed the initial fight with Bane breaking Batman's back, though. I'm glad they incorporated that part from the comics and that was one of the few scenes in the movie that had me on the edge of my seat. However, the other one(s) didn't do much for me. Might sound a bit odd, but I wish there was more fighting from Batman that didn't include melee. You have all these fancy gadgets, try using 'em. But yeah, the battles were a bit on the dull side.

Even though it was still a little weak, I thought they did that scene pretty well. I especially liked his line about being born in the dark and blinded by the light. Pretty creepy.

Plus you can't really have an epic comic book back-break in a movie with real people.

was it a dislocation or a slipped disk? i recently watched it again and i seem to remember it being something like that.

I agree there are a lot more physically gifted people who could have played Bane. Problem is playing Bane required actual acting which instantly shafted about 99% of those guys. I like that they used Tom Hardy, his fight scenes easily made up for the lack of muscle, the way he strikes in the movie is just beast, a guy with too much muscle (like the comic book bane) probably would have not been able to pull it off without looking sloppy.

But hey... I'm no batman expert.

I think Bane was great. He is a soldier planning something huge. He is not bodybuilding. Comic book fans need to feel special and so complain he's "not like the comic Bane" to show people they are "experts." To bad the comic book Bane would not fit Nolan's Batman AT ALL. Saying that other Bane from that older Batman is better is hilarious.

The only thing that I hated about Bane, was the fact that he sounded just like Sean Connery. Anyone else with me on that? Kept weirding me out. It was like 75% Connery.

I only saw the movie once, which was during the summer. I think the movie's explanation was ambiguous. His mask was to help him breathe because his face had been severely damaged. I guess the implication is that he could not breathe without it, or he'd greatly struggle to breathe without it.

You raise a good point. The movie was filled with holes and flaws.
