Satisfactory. First person open world factory building with occasional combat against hostile wildlife.

Starfield, Coral Island. Gonna jump into the Skull & Bones beta that opened today as well.

Baldur’s Gate 3 finally came out for Xbox. My most anticipated game all year since I’m a big CRRP/Larian fan. I’ve actually avoided watching a single review or other type of videos, because I want to go in blind haha.

I’m not letting myself start it because I’ve started multiple games the last few months and haven’t finished them yet. Wrapping up Aliens Dark Descent, Evil West, and NG+ play throughs of the Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 remakes for some achievements.

I finished Dave the Diver. It was really fun. It starts out simple but is brilliantly paced in terms of how it develops its story and introduces new gameplay mechanics and concepts. I thought it was pretty charming overall with its pixel graphics and all the characters you pick up along the way. Great game

I also started Terminator: Resistance. I enjoyed Robocop: Rogue City so decided to play one of the developers previous games. So far it has ok, but it hasn't picked up pace in terms of combat yet. Early on a lot of the game is scavenging and looting resources, which I'm fine with, but combat is pretty scant. Only a couple hours in though

I have had Cyberpunk installed for ages but been hesitant to start because it'll be a big commitment in terms of hours and I've been trying to get smaller games out of my backlog

I am installing Spiderman to replace Dave the Diver. Generally idgaf about Marvel games but I really like Guardians of the Galaxy so bought this one (And the Mile Morales game). I also bought a bunch of interactive story games that were on my Steam wishlist like the new Life is Strange, Heavy Rain, Necrobarista ... I decided to start with Tell Me Why which was made by the Life is Strange developers.

Started The Division 2 since it was on ps plus having a lot of fun with it, even on solo. Never thought I'd ever play this but glad I did now.

It's much better than the first game, I was bored the whole time playing Division 1.

Ventured into the dark zone for the first time earlier and picked up a few items, some bastard killed me right as the extraction chopper came in.

Started playing the Sigil II WAD, the new “unofficial sixth episode” of the OG Doom from John Romero. JFC it’s hard. He released Sigil 1 back in 2019 and I thought that was already a lot harder than Doom and Doom II, but Sigil II so far is ridiculous, even on medium difficulty I died like 8 times within the first like minute or two of the third level before calling it quits for the night and going to bed. This is going to be quite the challenge.

Really enjoyed Division 2, and played quite a bit after launch. Tons of solo content, but had to put it down with endgame content being a huge grind, but that's pretty typical for that type of game.

Similar experience with the Dark Zone. I was home in the middle of the week and was super early in the morning and was hoping I could sneak in and score some loot during low population time frame. Got a loot drop and signaled the extraction. Waited guarding the area with no signs of any other players. Chopper showed up and down to the last seconds to extraction and some dude rolled up and cut the line. Before he could pick it up, I popped a drone and unloaded my LMG on him. I think he was a lot higher level because it didn't look like it did much damage. In the confusion I was able to pick the loot back up and make it back to the exit. I didn't extract the loot but as long as he didn't get it I considered it a win. First and only trip into the DZ.

Dark Souls 2

Well after Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1 and Sekiro I thought I was a Souls pro. Nope. Holy F'in hell this one is tough. I'm really enjoying it though. It's actually better than I thought it was gonna be but I definitely understand the complaints. It feels a little bit like the "B team" at Fromsoft was in charge of this one. Currently dual wielding the rapier and the fire sword.

Also finished off the 6 hour trial of Motorfest. I enjoyed it quite a bit but it didn't really scratch any itch that Horizon 5 didn't. I may still pick it up way down the road.

I think I'm giving up on Jedi Survivor. It's mildly entertaining but I'm just not feeling it. I cleared the first planet and made it to Jedha. I feel like one of the main reasons I'm struggling to get into it is it seems most of the collectables are cosmetics, which I care very little for. There are a few upgrades you find, but its mostly clothes and light sabre parts. There is enough reason to explore for upgrades, but mostly feel disappointed when I find another new hair style.

I completed one of the rumors on the first planet and navigated a bunch of platforming, just to find a light sabre skin.

If I didn't already have a bunch of games I would probably stick with it, but feel like I would rather move on than, which is a shame because the story is really interesting.

Been playing "Orbital Bullet" which is a 360 circle level rogue like. You clear circles while gaining blueprints for weapons like in Dead Cells while also exploring and gaining passive upgrades along the way just like any other roguelike/lite.

I somehow got circled back into GT7. About 80 hours into the gameplay. 128/492 cars unlocked.

I will say, in current state it’s a really enjoyable game. I think where it goes wrong is that people see all these cars they want, then the game kind of does a story tutorial where it shows you how to tune etc, and many people interpret it as a mechanic to make them “lose” credits. When in reality it’s just kind of showing you what to do.

If the game kick dropped you into 800 PP races I think most people would crash a lot and be really frustrated.

Once you kind of peel back that exceptionally lengthy intro section and you settle into playing the game the way you’d like it really shines. I’ve really been enjoying the 800 pp mission log while working on the cafe collectors books. Racing the Peugeot right now is just a ton of fun

Had to drop Trials of Mana after 9 hours. Rare for me but it just turned into such a basic JRPG. Similar to DQ11 in that way but with none of the charm.

Strangely enough had the urge to try Death Stranding again and the game has sucked me in. You are pretty much a delivery driver and I don't know it just works for me. My main complaint is they should have music playing during all delivers whenever you aren't in combat but they seem to only rarely do it. When they do it's great but it would work for like 80% of deliveries.

Made it all the way to the end of Sigil 2 and then encountered a game breaking bug on my saved game. I saved my game just before the “boss fight” against two Cyberdemons and one spider mastermind, but when I loaded my saved game my guy was stuck in some crevice and couldn’t move. I was playing on PS5 so there was option to simply input a console command to go into noclipping mode to unstuck myself. Christ’s sake!

You pretty much nailed my opinion on rise and shadow. I liked rise a lot it’s a shame they couldn’t replicate it in shadow.
Probably common knowledge by now, but I just found out that Shadow was handed off to Eidos Montreal for development, whereas ROTTR was all Crystal Dynamics. That would explain the disconnect.

I actually found out the same thing the day I replied to your post. I google something about the series and someone mentioned that it wasn't done by the same team as ROTTR. So yea that explained it to me.

Started playing LotR: Return to Moria. It's an entertaining budget survival/crafting game with a LotR skin.

Nothing great about the title, but the individual pieces are fun enough to keep playing and the lore is pretty cool. It's doing a good enough job keeping the carrot out in front so having a good time.

Just an FYI that I've created a new tag for our sub called Ranking.

I encourage you guys to use this when wanting to talk tier lists or for anything you want to rank – examples are weapon tier lists, chars/legends/heroes/antagonists (villains), abilities, skins/vanity, game sequels, anything from in-game subsystems to across titles and game genres.

Thanks.

Got a huge chunk of time into Return to Moria, it's definitely picked up. Even with some jank, it core gameplay loop is fun with. I am absolutely exploiting a ton of mechanics to speed things up.

Combat and AI are straight up garbage, but I wasn't expecting much on that front. Armor works like a second health bar but breaks and and needs repair quickly. Going on long exploration runs is tough because single orc camp is usually 4~5 orcs, but more will spawn in if you let them call for friends. Once you destroy the totem in the camp they stop spawning for good. A bad encounter can wreck your armor and your HP drops quickly when it's busted. To make clearing these camps a breeze I just dash into the camp, smash the totem, run out and quit to title. Then when you reload the save they've all despawned and you can loot any chests.

Also have been taking advantage of exiting the game and loading another world. Your inventory stays with you, so when my armor is broken or inventory is full I reload my character into a different world just to unload inventory space and repair armor. Then back into my primary world to continue on. I feel like the armor is so delicate that if I didn't do this I would constantly be running back to base just to fix it. Not to mention inventory space is fairly limited and tons of shit drops constantly, on top of the sprint stamina drain being a huge drain so Im walking most of the time waiting for stamina to regen.

I feel like those 3 mechanics needs a balance tweak and the game length is inflated by running back to your base. Even with those, I'm still really enjoying progressing the different areas and unlocking the new crafting recipes.

A bit dated, but Octopath Traveler (the first one, I understand a sequel recently came out). I bought this with steam deck in mind given it's not graphically intensive and I could kill a lot of time on long fights ad drives. I've put a further chunk in and it's kind of hit its stride for me, though it has some obvious weaknesses. As a JPRG it's been a good time sponge, I've gotten all the secret classes and am rounding out the remaining 4th chapters.

Pluses:
+ battle system is pretty good with the selection of weapons, spells, items, and other special abilities. The Battle Points and Break system are really cool
+ old style graphics have this charming lighting effect to them
+ easy to spend a lot of time in, good value per dollar
+ challenging but not impossible boss fights
+ good variety of classes, and special skills. Pretty balanced.

Minuses:
- the 8 different stories with limited interaction between them give an overall lack of feeling of purpose. Then the actual stories themself are pretty lame and I'm forced to skip through them, especially because with grind time, you might not do a characters 2nd chapter until well after the first etc, and have a bunch of other stories in between, so you forget what's going on
- graphics, while cute, I wouldn't say are very good and animations are very limited
- some character special abilities you kind of want to have at all times, and it's kind of annoying that it requires a lot of swapping of characters to do all the actions
- until you get really up there in power a lot of the battles with lesser opponents drag on too long and are uninteresting
- side missions tend to be ultra lame

All in all though the rewarding battles and variety of tactics and learning skills have wo out over the obvious problems and it's a 7.5 for me. I hear conflicting things about the sequel like it's better in every way, to "if you didn't like the first game, you won't like the second as it has the smae problems", Apparently there is some popularity to the belief the sequel is GOTY and supposedly as an all time great soundtrack.
