Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

Lords of the Fallen 7/10

The world in this game is incredible. The dual world mechanic is well implemented and didnt feel overdone or gimmicky like I thought it may. It added an extra layer of exploration to a game with already incredible exploration. The weapons and armor types are varied and all look amazing. I kept playing with different looks which is something I've never really cared about before even in Elden Ring. Overall the boss fights ranged from good to epic with none that stand out as particularly awful.

This game would be a 9/10 if it wasnt for the performance issues. On Series X there is lots
of stuttering and frame drops. It's pretty bad. Yes it has improved with patches but not by much.

Enemy placement leaves a little to be desired. They are so blatantly cheap with the placement towards the end it just becomes tedious and it takes away from the environment. Every corner has an enemy hidden behind a barrel or pile of wood ready to pounce the second you are within range, over and over and over again. Enemy variety is a bit lacking too. Seems like they just do palatte swaps and give them a different attack. (Regular dogs, Fire Dogs, Frostbite dogs etc......)

I'll probably do another playthrough after they work out some of the performance issues.

Moving on to Dark Souls 2. My first time playing it. I know some of the issues people had with LoTF were also in DS2 so I'm interested to see how it goes.
I also just finished LOTF. I really liked the new mechanics they added to the mix, but damn the frame rate drops to potato quality if there’s more than 4 enemies on screen. Was very annoying.

DS2 was the first Souls game I’d ever played so it’s one of my favorites others probably say the opposite. It’s definitely weird, obsusre and doesn’t tell you where the Hell to go like the others.

You have the Scholar version most likely? Then yeah, you'll have a few difficult enemy placements. Still a really fun game though.
Fuck the Fume Knight. That bastard is in my top 5 most hated souls bosses.

I finished the first one for the first time earlier this year. I bought 3 on sale last week but figured I'd better playthrough 2 first. So far it's a pain in the ass and I hate it.

So underrated. There are gank squads that can get a little silly and the early game is a bit of a chore, but it's such a huge and satisfying game, that made QOL changes that have echoed throughout the series. I sometimes feel crazy for putting it side by side with DS3, because so many people have issues with it, that I just don't see. It's an amazing game.

Playing through Aliens: Dark Descent and freaking loving it. It’s captures suspense really well for a trpg. Also playing Rollerdrome and doing Enter the Gungeon runs here and there. I’ll eventually beat this goddamn Gungeon!
Man I totally forgot about this game. Was enjoying it but it got lost in a sea of great stuff this year. Will have to go back and finish.

I bought an Xbox series s mainly to play halo with the nephews. Been out of the gaming loop for a couple of decades. What's worth playing?

Depends on what you like. I would try Gamepass. There is a ton of different stuff on there including all the Halo games.

If you're looking for a big AAA blockbuster to see what they are like now I'd recommend Cyberpunk.

If you've been out of the loop that long than 100% get GP and just start trying all the top games on there. Depends on what you like really though. If you like Halo than Doom is a good start. If you want something other than an FPS we would need to know more. Ori is a good platformer, Hollow Knight is a great indie title. The Yakuza series is always good not sure if Yakuza 0 is still on there.

Just platinumed Dredge and got 100% trophies in the dlc too. haven't done that in a game for a while.

Best indie game I've played in ages.
What's this game all about objectively? You are a tugboat captain and have to discover docks, safe harbor? Respect @ that Plat!

Just started playing today, really digging it so far. I played the Catacomb The Abyss (I believe it was the original FPS) games and this is the spiritual successor to those. I hope for great things as it develops.

It's a Lovecraftian Horror fishing game lol.

Catching all types of fish in strange environments using different equipment with some weird shit happening from time to time. Horrors from the deep chasing you etc

I thought it had a very fun gameplay loop, Catch fish to sell to get better equipment, find upgrade parts etc

the story was pretty cool too. has side quests, collectables etc never felt like a chore doing everything.

Been hooked on Sons of the Forest. I'm not even progressing the game, I'm just logging and collecting rocks, with an occasional excursion to go spelunking for key items, so I can more efficiently collect rocks and gather logs.

Haha that slow sweep attack he does looks so easy to dodge but somehow...

Doing another playthrough of Skyrim with a dual wielding axe Breton this time. Just can't get enough of the world and music. The word epic is so overused but this game has such a unique charm, I doubt there will ever be anything like it.

He's a cheater cheater pumpkin eater! That's what he is. Motherfucker is programmed to read all of your inputs. Awesome fight, when you eventually squeak out a victory, but my God, is he ever a cheap prick. At least he didn't have an army of minions, like some other DLC asshole, though...

I was looking at picking this up, largely because indie “boomer shooters” (I prefer the name retro FPS myself) are basically my favourite genre these days. This one looks promising.

Remnant 2 is free on gamepass. Going to start that after the fights tonight.
