What are you playing? v.9 (Kefka Edition)

Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

Picked up EA Sports PGA Tour for PS5. For the most part I think it looks and feels slightly better than 2K23 and I definitely appreciate the vastly superior selection of real courses. It's solid aside from a few issues. Honestly some of these things make me wonder if the developers even play golf.

1. You can't move your tee in the tee box. So those branches hanging over on the left. You're just going to have to swing further right to avoid them rather than simply moving the tee right.
2. Chipping and bunker shots. The player sets up like a normal shot and makes an awkward abbreviated swing instead of actually setting up like a chip or bunker shot.
3. Uphill putts consistently break more than downhill putts.
4. I'm no pro, I'm like a 10 handicap. But when I hit a mid iron onto a green it's going to stick and maybe even spin back, not run out another 30 feet.
5. The tempo of the swing just feels slow and the camera angle is at a weird offset so it makes the ball look like it's going right every time. The only thing I can see that you can change is how high the camera is, not left or right.

Once you max out magic and gem box it. You just kill everyone with simple fire or whatever level 1 spell. No need to even use powerful spells. Sabin was a good carry early on though.

I really liked how they at least gave everyone a small arc in the story along with the big dungeons that make you use everyone.
I remember playing it on my SNES back in the day. The game was really ahead of it's time.

Ok boys. I got slay the spire this past weekend. I haven’t sunk a ton of time in yet. I’m finding it’s one of those games that’s perfectly satisfying to play one run on, then log off for the day. By the time I’m tired of it, I’m addicted to seeing how my build plays out, and want to see if I can make it further. I really enjoy the character defect the most so far

I really like the orb mechanic and I feel like he really gains tremendous strength as you get deeper into the game.

The trading card aspect is very enjoyable and keeps me interested and engaged. 10/10 so far

House Flipper Simulator lol.
lol I played that briefly and it was enjoyable for a one off kind of play. Does it get more complex as you go?

Kind of. The houses get bigger and you need to put more thought into the design. The game isn't bad, I'm just trying to kill time till Dead Island 2.

Ah nice man that’s fun.

Dead island should be good I loved the OG game back In the day. Hasn’t it been almost a decade?

Enjoying MGS V so far. The game really becomes fun once you unlock more equipment. Speaking of MGS, I should really get around to playing the HD Collection.

Great game that affords so much latitude – like you said, especially after amassing blueprints, resources and all. Glad to see it still finding an audience. Snake's prone roll is so G.

Such a great game, I think I have 300 hours or something in it.

Defect is also my favorite character and the only one I've beaten Ascension 20 with.

Any tips for a newbie? So far I think I’m finding the orb play and shielding is crucial

I can't stop playing Sifu (and I'm pretty bad at it imo) but that doesn't stop the fun factor and replayability. Each run I get better and better. It's like experiencing Sekiro all over again. I know I've mentioned the game in the previous thread as well but if you haven't played it and you enjoyed Sekiro OR Thymesia I'd give it a shot.

I keep trying to do levels deathless as well as going for new high scores and that alone makes me keep playing.

Logged on to see if anyone was playing this. I was gonna get the 10 hour trial but at 55 gigs ill probably just buy it. Gonna run me over.my data limit anyway.

General advice for any deckbuilding game is don't pick unnecessary cards just because you can. The best card is useless if you don't draw it at the right time which becomes less likely the more cards you have. It's pretty common for good players to skip rewards in Slay the Spire even early on in the run.

Card removal is a strong mechanic in these games and you'll usually want to use it any time you can in Slay the Spire to remove weak cards (strikes and then defends) and have a higher chance of drawing the stuff you want.

That's also the reason why Defect's Seek is possibly the best card in the entire game. You can pick anything you want out of your deck for free.

As for other Defect cards, there are multiple things that can work. Orbs are strong because they can passively give you defence/damage/energy every turn.

Claw / 0 cost cards / All for One / Hologram can be very strong too. With the right relics you can get very long (or even infinite) attack series that keep buffing you up even more every turn. Even then some orb cards like Coolheaded or Glacier are good though because they help you with defense.

Echo Form looks very powerful (and it can be) but remember that you also have to play it. You'll have to spend 3 energy without any immediate benefit and that could lead to taking a lot of damage. Goes back to what I said in the beginning about cards being useless if you can't play them.

Biased Cognition is very good for Orb/Power builds. Losing 1 focus per turn usually isn't that bad since you'll do so much damage the fight shouldn't take that long. You can also remove the Focus penalty with Artifact though which makes it even better.

World 1
At higher Ascension levels the main issue is killing Nob (the red Elite) which can be especially hard for Defect since a lot of his cards are Skills which will buff Nob. Attack cards are good against him.

World 2
You need AOE damage for a lot of the encounters. Usually not much of a problem for Defect. If you have Electrodynamics it's easy going and you can play very risky here.
You'll also need to be able to block some big damage hits.

World 3
You need scaling to get strong enough to beat the Head and the final bosses. Something like Lots of Focus and Orbs slots, Lots of powers, Claws with lots of redraws etc.

Sorry for the wall of text, I just wrote down whatever came to mind :)

The Last Of Us Part 2
Awesome game with great graphics, characters, combat and very nice atmosphere. Only things I didn't care about that much were the real-time events and the last 10-15 minutes of the plot. I still don't get why people are so mad about this game. If it is "the diversity" then I have to say people need to fucking get a grip.

Wreckfest
Been playing this game with my kid and holy shit it's the most fun I've had with a racing game since the original Demolition Derby on PS1. Awesome crashes and great driving physics. Just the career mode is a little bit shallow.

Went back to RE2 remake with all the fuss about 4, never finished the original or this remake(Never made it out the Police station).. But just finished act 1 with Claire, got a C
<mma3>
Was mostly the fuckin Chess Puzzle in the sewers that fucked me over as I left one piece in a place well far away from the puzzle and had completely forgotten how to get back there.. Anyhoo, i'm pretty sure I could do it in half the time, just started act 2 with Leon and shit is off to a difficult start.

One of my favorite roguelites. There’s a dope mod that adds an additional character and another that lets you play as one of the boss characters.

Ghostwire: Tokyo, Chapter 2.

It's a better experience than a videogame.

It looks wonderful, it's eerie, it's supremely atmospheric and has likeable main characters. I'm liking walking around Tokyo so far. Oddly enough, it reminds me of F.E.A.R in it's horror, although nothing has topped Alma herself, yet. Not many NPCs in this city, just blue spirit orbs that vaguely resemble humanoid clouds, and the menacing enemies. It's a city where everyone disappeared in a blink of an eye. That's the premise.

Gameplay wise? If you're relatively smart then you won't have much of a problem. If you're a dumbfuck like me who can't get rid of the urge to sprint everywhere, then you'll find it quite unforgiving. It's basically pointing fingers and shooting one of three elements, or a bow, at the enemy until their cores become exposed, then suck them in. It has brief moments of being fun, the stealth can be satisfactory (the takedowns look great), but there is a lot of room for improvement, especially in head to head combat. There is parkour as well and funnily enough, no fall damage. It's like Cyberpunk without augments or death.

Too early to recommend for a bit, but if walking around a city where everyone but the odd spirit exists is your thing, or if you have a passion for Japanese culture, it may be worth a go. If you like your gameplay to be top end then it may be a try before you buy deal. I recommend GamePass, but no guarantees it'll stay on your hard drive. I'll be seeing it through to the end, however.
