I think I've dropped KCD2 at this point. I just have no desire to play it anymore. I'm starting to realize that something about the first-person perspective makes it hard for me to play a game past 30-40 hours. It's happened with all the first-person RPGs I play. Fallout, Skyrim, Dying Light, Bioshock, Outer worlds all of them I start out loving and after about 30 hours I just want it to end.

Yet I can pop in some random JRPG and play it 80-100 hours no issue. I'm not really in the mood to play anything so I started up Hollow Knight even though I beat it on PC already decided to just work my way through it again. Maybe I'll get the plat I don't know.

I put thousands of hours into EverQuest back in the day. Haven’t put over 40 hours in any first person game since then. Don’t know what it was about that game.

Does KCDII gate story progression to shepherd players into side-questing or can you play campaign without worrying too much (within reason) about level? I saw Henry horseback in a forest (trailer) and it really grabbed me as something I want to return to in gaming. Not much has taken me into nature proper this gen outside of Forbidden West.

If being taken into nature is what you're looking for this game will deliver it in spades. Might be the best experience I've had in a forest\nature setting. I know you have a pro now so you're just going to love it. I hate following missions in games but in this one it's great riding horseback through trails following someone. They have a following button so you can auto follow while you turn your head and just enjoy the scenery. During one following mission my wife came in and asked what movie I was watching lol.

Mainlining the story doesn't negate progression but the game will be a bit harder and the side quest do connect\enhance the main quest story overall. I did all the side quest in the first area and then I did the first major quest and it was a great experience because of all the work I put in before hand. The SQ IMO are also well done and not boring stuff that is disconnected from the overall story. The rewards were also nice.

In KCD1 I did the story only and it was a tough but I was able to make it through the game. This time around doing so many side quest I've actually been kind of destroying everyone during the main quest. I have a build that makes me really strong if I just use a 1 handed sword and nothing else and it's great.

This week I finally finished The First Berserker. Really ended up loving it. The main story bosses were challenging in a way that seems literally impossible at first but soon becomes second nature, as long as you can execute. I've completed and platinumed most From games but the challenge in Khazan felt a lot more fair than From titles for some reason. Anytime I died to a boss (except for a few very minor instances of messed up terrain) it was because I messed up. I bought Elden Ring Nightreign today and I find the combat in it feels pretty weak compared to Khazan's combat, really quite sluggish. It'll be fine when I get over the adjustment period but I'm currently missing the snappiness of TFB.

Also picked up an early access title for a fiver earlier called Surroundead. If you're familiar with DayZ, it's the same sort of thing but with a low polygon type style to it. It's surprisingly polished, even at this stage. It's geared more towards single players so if you like DayZ but don't like other people, give it a go.

Gave up on Khazan for now. Stuck on Trokka. Literally hundreds of attempts. I'm sure I could get it if I really buckled down but I've honestly lost all interest in trying anymore.

Anyway, I started Forbidden West. First game I bought when I bought my PS5 and I completely forgot about it. I'm only a few hours in but so far I'm really liking it. I loved the first one so if this is just more of the same, I'm happy.

Edit: beat Trokka

I am trying Rogue Lords. It's a indie turn based game. It's pretty hard. It's almost unfair.

Anyone play that "Metaphor" game? Is it basically "Persona" in what looks like a fantasy medieval setting? Any big differences in design?

Plays similarly. Time cycles and what not.

Biggest difference is a job system like older final fantasy. No "creature collection" style stuff like persona or smt.

Biggest pro for me is not playing a high schooler and trying to date 16 year olds. No romance options at all, or sketchy fan service.

A lot more combat as well, with side dungeons and quests.

Combat is a bit different as well with turn icons for you or the enemy that can be manipulated.

Red Dead 2 and GTA V even though I beat both a long time ago. And I'll play COD once in a while. Maybe 2-3 hours a week total of gaming.

Metaphor: Re-Fantazio

...What a ridiculous name, LOL.

Anyways, it's essentially "Persona" with a new coat of paint. You got the weird "skill master" guy in some fantasy realm explaining/allocating all your powers. You got the social activities to upgrade skills between party members. You got the day to day time crunch, etc. Only real difference is that you don't collect a bunch of monsters to use as your powers. You just...get the powers, and then level them up. Same basic structure, though.

Not a bad thing, though, as only ATLAS really does this kind of JRPG. It's their signature style, and it's great. The combat is slightly different, in that it incorporates some real-time combat with the standard turn based stuff. It basically just expands upon sneaking up on enemies to gain an advantage. Here, you can fight them for a bit to break their guard in a sloppy real time system, and then head into the battle for an advantage/disadvantage depending on how good it went. It's fine, but not all that different. Once you've leveled up a bit, you can just dispatch of the weaker enemies in real time, which is a nice time saver.

Can't give too many impressions on the story, but it's a strong starter, and is the one element that is completely different from the "Persona" franchise. This is medieval times gone anime, and it's really good so far. I'm definitely feeling it.

So far, so good.

Currently playing Streets of Rage 4 and Prince of Persia: Lost Crown.

Been wanting to buy a big-ticket game but have been having a hard time figuring out what mood I’m in.

I remember protag in Streets (Axel) looking so cool but now that I’m older, dude is basically a jacked alcoholic.

Been jumping between Nioh 2 and KCD2. KCD has been easier to continue now that I've got another game to jump into and take a break from it. I have just been going from MQ to MQ though and I've only done like two side quest in the new region. As far as I can tell I don't have much left to go and I'm about 60 hours in. I can tell the main quest are getting a bit to high in level for me though as the fights are starting to get pretty tough.

Nioh 2 I just got two the second region and completely cleared out the first one. The snake boss was really a PIA until I found out I don't need to fight him in the dark realm shit. I can just avoid him and the snakes. Once I started doing that I quickly won. I really didn't think I'd ever get Ki pulse down but during my runs with the second boss I was able to get it down. Starting to get into a groove now and realizing that blocking is a lot more viable in this game than past souls games.

From here on out I think I'm going to start mixing in 2 games at a time. The second game will have to be strictly gameplay focused but other then that I'm enjoying doing this more than just focusing on one game. I can put in a lot of hours on the weekends and it can leave me feeling burnt out if I just focus on one game the whole time.

You and I’ve talked about this over the years – of never playing two games back to back of same genre. I like this new strat and I see it as an evolution of that, really.

I've had Cyberpunk for 3 1/2 years, had never played it. And on one hand, I feel like I should have played it a long time ago, and on the other, realize that I may have run into the same gripes as everyone else. One of my favorite games I've ever played. When the new update comes, will play it again. Can't wait for the sequel that will come out in 10 years

The Phantom Liberty expansion is worth every penny.

And the CP sequel has its own dedicated studio developing it in Boston, so no worries about CDPR having to wait until Witcher 4 and it's expansions are completed for the CP sequel development to start

They're working on it now.

I got the PL content for $5, saved up a gang of points and bought it. The world they built, the lore, it's all amazing. Of course a lot of the ideas were borrowed, but I don't really care. Never got bored with it the entire way through. Now I have a better understanding, so the next play through should be more fun, imo

Yeah I sat on it for years after pre-ordering but hearing the initial reactions. I finally played it last year and thought it was an easy 10/10, amazing game

Remember the Chimera Core?
Craft the explosive rounds mod and put it into the automatic pistol you get from winning the shooting range game.

One of the absolute best pistols in the game.

I bought it on release, played it with none of the issues others were having but stopped at some mission where I remember there being a big flying dragon and some Asian boss as a street kid.

No idea how close I was to the end, but I remember enjoying it at the time. I want to get a steam deck and play my way through a heap of games I did that with. I just rebought RDR2 on PC after playing it for a bit on Xobox on release and getting bored.

My time sink game has been Rust but i legit only enjoy building bases. I can't bring myself to grind anymore online, I just want stuff I can pop in and out of.
